Title: why i swap / sell my old parts i cannot and will not ever understand
Post by: junior varsity on April 23, 2012, 04:52:58 AM
I find myself recently with a very sore backside.   It seems I have been kicking myself frequently about selling some of my aftermarket bits and pieces, including my pc'd OEM bits.   I'll sell them and only god knows where that money goes, but then find myself pissing and moaning later (sometimes mere weeks later) about how I sure wish I still had X, Y, or Z.

So...   To any of you peeps out there who "get lucky" and end up with some of my bits 2nd hand,  Good On Ya.   Please don't offer to sell it back to me for what you paid or even slightly more, because I just might be dumb enough to take it - only to change my dumb mind again later!

i need some rearsets, by the way.

anybody know if the Ducabike Monster (1st & 2nd Gen) rearsets are compatible with their folding pegs? I'd like to keep everything "working" in the event of an off, and folding pegs help keep the frame tabs intact.

Im sorry to laugh, but that was funny! Good luck. Im in the same boat. As soon as I sold a spare rear brake MC, mine froze up and stopped working.

I understand entirely.
Recently sold clutch parts, and then my brothers clutch plays up.

Just let-go of a good-used 1-phase alternator assembly 1 week ago....

Only to have an 851 come in that won't charge the battery this week.  [bang]

Enjoy the fun of laughing at me.  [laugh]

you mean Milli?    She's not interested in riding anymore (spends time going on runs with her sister and stuff), even though the bike is finished.  its my commuter right now.   got bags on it and everything.

I rarely sell ANYTHING.

If I die tomorrow, whoever gets my garage is going to be in random-ducati parts heaven.

i've decided that i'm going to start buying bikes to put the parts i have accumulated on.   that's the only logical plan here.

I still have a full exhaust for an 851 -- new in box -- that has been in my possession for about 8 years.   :-[

Bahaha. I know what you mean. I have a few 999 pieces because one day, yknow... maybe.... I will own one.

Similarly I have more than one adjustable rear suspension pivot from te 888SPO/Corsa models in the hopes I will either (a) acquire the proper hoop or (b) have a proper hoop made (in billet if I have too!)

I like the race tech a LOT. The stuff that yet really used or replicas of the same technology - better that than backyard attempts to reinvent the wheel I suppose.

Are you familiar with SuperTrapp?  It's a 2:1:2 kit.  High mounts.  Their system uses stackable aluminum plates in the can to increase/reduce restriction and noise reduction.  Use all the plates for maximum noise reduction, take them all out for none.  I think there are 10-15 plates, so it's effectively "tuneable" for the amount of restriction desired.

plates (not mine but they used the same setup on a lot of different exhausts -- the Cagiva Elefant Lafranconi exhaust had it too)

I remember running them on Harleys. I had a 2 into 1 on my FXR.

they made exhausts for a lot of bikes, but no Ducati anymore.  They are solid aluminum so not the lightest going.

The Supertrap cans and systems I've seen were from light gauge stainless, back in the day, and combined with the" wave disc" tuning gave a distinctive metalic exhaust note.

I think adding tuning plates opened the pipe more except for the straight thru end cap available (which I ran on the FXR). The end cap was normally closed and the discs let the exhaust out from between them.
They were popular fitment to the XR 1000 Sportster, with two cans fitted over and under on one side evo style or Norton or Triumph California scrambler style.

They made full systems out of stainless, but I don't know nowdays.

I always thought it was opposite. More plates= more exhaust pass through
