Title: Speedo Jumping
Post by: JGreer063 on April 29, 2012, 01:37:14 PM
So I was on my normal Saturday afternoon ride and I notice my speedometer jumping very slightly. I did not think much of it and kept riding. I went to meet the girlfriend at a local bar for a beer, and on the way the speedo starting jumping like crazy. It would fluctuate from 45mph (speed I was going) to 120mph and anywhere in-between.

The speedo sweeps as normal when starting the bike and nothing else seems wrong. I'm thinking (and hoping) its just the sensor. But if I need the whole gauge cluster removed I can deal with because I have my ECU re-flashed with the immobilizer disabled.

Any ideas on whats going on and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

No. Not even close. I read that post when I searched and my issue is the needle jumping all the time not in high revs and I do not do any clutchless shifting. But thanks for the input. And yea I like the search function too... That is why I use it before I post.

I had this happen on my modified '02 S4. Exact same problem you're refering to.
Check for moisture on your speedo wires. I traced my problem to a loosely fit wire cap from the splice.
(I added a speedo healer to my moto when I converted the bike to a single sided swingarm.)
