Title: Progressive Motorcycle Insurance Test Driving a Motorcycle.
Post by: sgeier on April 30, 2012, 02:11:28 PM
This is an update to a post I did from Oct 2011 (Waiver to ride a motorcycle) . Where my wife test drove a motorcycle through a dealership and during the test drive dropped the bike.
Since we had full coverage with Progressive we thought (actually everyone thought) we were covered.
Progressive denied our claim.
Well after 6 months of wrangling and going back and forth with Progressive. With Progressive initially saying this was a "borrowed" bike and not a "non-owned" bike.
Our insurance guy even threatened with taking them to the Colorado Dept. of Insurance.
Here is a copy of the email we got from our insurance agent.
"Hey you -  Hard to believe, Progressive has one of the  most restrictive M/C policies I’ve ever seen… the policy provides coverage for a “non owned” M/C,  which that was… however they  have a fine print description that says “only if used with a rental agreement”   I know…..go figure.

It took them 6 months,  dragging their feet… shuckin and jiving,   to do what they could of done in 6 minutes….. no wonder folks hate insurance companies…  I’d ask your agent check with Dairyland,  or any other carrier, there’s better carriers out there… "

My main purpose of posting this is from the vast majority of responses to my first post, most people think they are covered. I don't want them to find out too late they are not. Just to be clear. Progressive changed their policy and test drives are not covered in any way, no matter what coverage you have, on any bike.

I've got progressive on my street bikes and am going to change in September when the policy renews.

Thanks for the heads up.
