I see some paint, exhaust, and mirrors. Why exactly would this win the Monster Challenge?

I mean, it is a nice bike, but not spectacular...

Like:
nice to see others doing the subframe.
is that the xcentric seat cover or the solo DP seat
the passenger handles look good too
the dp scoop looks cool too

don't like:
red wheels (i thought i would but with the black body nope)
white stripes on red wheels
red number panel
need to black out the light frame
two brothers carbon  [puke]
yellow spring
black body with red frame
still having the exhaust valve
stock silver upper triple

oh and claiming my title ;)

Thanks for all the feedback.

Some people believe less is more, but my personal motto is the more mods the merrier. The most appealing aspect of the Monster is the ability to make it unique. While some owners are perfectly satisfied with throwing on Termis and replacing some plastic with carbon fiber, I prefer to make my bike stand out. Naked bikes are particularly hard to customize, and the vast Monster community forced me to push my creativity in order to be different.

I am not a professional bike shop mechanic, nor do I have special access to suppliers or sponsors. I’m just a typical Ducati enthusiast that wants his bike to turn heads. I believe the Monster Challenge is designed to recognize those who aren’t afraid to push the envelope and take chances to give their ride a custom look specific to the owner (performance isn’t as much of a factor). I really feel that there are little to no Monsters out there that have put the same combination of accessories and customization as I have. Sure not everyone is going to like it, and some forum members will even hate it, but in the end it will achieve all that I wanted which is to generate interest and provide others with ideas of how to make their own Monsters personalized to their taste.

You've added an exhaust, painted a few things, and changed the tail.

Congrats, in an effort to be unique and different you've done basically the same mods everyone else does.

ummm, have you *SEEN* some of the other bikes?  same combination of accessories, maybe not. customization (one- off fab) you aren't even close. most of us aren't even close to the levels of kung fu that go on here

anyways, welcome to the board, and you'll get used to the snark 'round these parts  [beer]

For those of you that think all it takes to have a nice looking Monster is to just add any exhaust, paint some random parts, and change the seat cover you clearly dont have an appreciation for the subtle details that make a bike stand out. I admit that I misused the word "custom" and while the pictures don't really showcase the less obvious mods, I still see few similarities to the bikes on this forum. Anyway if anyone wants to meetup in the NY-NJ area to see for themselves, I'm up for it.

I don't think the Monster "needs" to have anything done to make it look nice.

This is one of the most pretentious posts I've seen on this site, for one of the ugliest, and least interesting bikes I've seen on here.

My Duc is more 'custom' and better looking than this (it's an older one, so that's not hard) and mine isn't even in the same league as what a lot of guys on here have.

[roll] Exactly right mate, exactly right.

You clearly have a Monster of which you're proud.  If you're happy with the result then thats really all that matters  [thumbsup].

But there are some very fine creations around here.  I'd advise against showing up and lecturing the locals on the pros and cons of good taste Monster "modding" if I were you  :-*.

So some people are claiming that my bike looks no different than the other modified Monsters on the forum, while others are saying that it is completely ugly and uninteresting. Since I'm not trying to sell this bike to you, I don't need your approval or praise (which I already receive on a daily basis). However, should you ever decide to upgrade to the newer model, at least you'll have an idea of what accessories you'd want on it and which ones you'll pass on.

The CF air box is by Carbonvani. It replaces the two plastic side vents with one piece and adds a metal grill over the radiator. It does require the removal of the emissions cannister but has noticeable effect ( in person). It goes really well with the CF lower engine cowl which has a similar grill.

personally....your bike doesn't appeal to me, and that is because I am just not enamoured with the newer generation Monster's....that is MY personal opinion, for which there are more than a few here that share that...hence where some criticism comes from ( I am guessing)....I am in no way saying to didn't put work into it, as you obviously did, but there are things I would change...and Raux pointed out a few that I agree with...

painting the bezel around the headlight
painting/powdercoating the rearsets ( or replacing them)
a SBK/Corsa front fender

these are 3 personal aesthetics I would change right away if it were my bike...but like people have said...it is all subjective opinion and we all have differing ones...either you agree or you don't...and if you can't take em either way....maybe you should reconsider the tone of your posts, as they do come off rather arrogant which would seem to automatically instigate a level of reaction, and not necesarily a positive one generally speaking....

I appreciate the constructive criticism (works much better than blatant insults). I realize now that my posts, including the subject line, rubbed everyone the wrong way which wasn't my intention at all. I just wanted to share some the mods that I personally haven't seen on this generation Monster. Unlike Arrick's dream machine, all of my mods are within reach for an average Monster owner and still has a dramatic effect (maybe more negatively than positively). Everyone by me seems to really like what I did, so Im glad to hear what the true Monster experts think ( good and bad).

Me = New Gen Monster.
Kopfjäger Cupcake kraptaker = New Gen Monster front fender
Raux = New Gen Monster.

I dont think its a new vs old discussion.  The critique is transgenerational.

^^ What he said.

I personally think Raux did a nice job of replacing his headlight. DoWorkSon also did this, both are good examples of an aesthetic improvment over OEM.

The new gen Monster looks, IMO, like it had the front light "smushed" in. "Smushed," is that even a word? LOL

**Responsible house keeping hat on**
Raux, buddy, don't take me seriously. I'm just messing around. Humor doesn't translate well through pixelated script on forum posts.  :P

There are some really well done newer gens on here, though I like the look of the older ones better.  Raux and ungeheuer have great newer ones.  The old ones are hard to make look bad, the new ones are hard to make look good.

Not trying to start an arguement here, but really, what have you done that hasn't been done on the newer Monsters? I mean, if they make mass produced parts that you or your local shop put on for you then someone else has to have done it before.
Now, take a look at some of those bikes in the Major Builds Thread. Look at truckinduc! That guy MAKES his own parts  :o  [drool]

Ok, I changed my Avatar to better fit the forum standards. My original one took me to the finals of the Jersey Shore tryouts, but they claim I was too arrogant. Those MTV producers can't appreciate the subtle details and have no taste when it comes to casting! Anyway, the official label of the oil cooling radiator is a Carbon Fiber Air Shroud, so it has nothing to do with the airbox and provides little to no performance value (unlike the airbox kit by MWR).

Like the Seat cowl for sure!  [thumbsup]

But i tend to agree with the other guys that its a little flashy for me, but if that's your personality then go with it! I think that's the point of the monster, its a way to express our inner personalities through steel and engine .....or in the newer generations, plastic and engine...Caugh! Caugh!  [laugh]

But welcome to the forum, and just remember to respect the builders and don't burn any bridges on here... your going to be more than thankful that your not the smartest guy on here when something goes wrong with your bike and  you don't have a Grand to go get diagnostics run...just to see why it has the hiccups lol! They are more than knowledgeable and ready to offer solutions and fixes from years of experience! This is a good bunch of guys, and the pride they take in their machines/mistresses is admirable! Some of these guys would sell their wives before their bikes...so take that into account when you say you have a hotter bike!  ;D (creates more understanding of their reactions)

But all in all it is a nice machine, and your personal enjoyment is all that matters!  [thumbsup]

Welcome to the Forum!  [thumbsup]
