I need enough storage for a night out, including sleeping bag, small tent, etc. Has anyone tried the twisted throttle Dryspec D38 bag? http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/7054/844/ (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/7054/844/)

Seems like it would work but I want to make sure it will fit ok on a 2011 Monster 796.  It would be nice to buy the D38 and D28 and that should fit all my gear, and keep it dry.

Anyone use these, or have a better suggestion?  I'd rather not mount racks on my bike.  Thanks. ....Steve

I'm not familiar with the Dryspec but I would suggest you take a look at the Kriega tail bags, specifically the US30.  They have them at aerostitch and Revzilla.  I think most people on here will agree Kriega quality and durability can't be beat.

I had read about them too and the Kriega bags look really nice but they're a little smaller, and are more expensive than the dryspec.  I also read you have to remove the Kriega bags from the bike to get inside them, where the Dryspec can be opened while still attached. 

I'd love to hear from anyone who has either of these bags, or another suggestion.  It needs to be big enough to carry a sleeping bag, small tent and a few days worth of clothes, rain gear and random supplies.  Thanks!

I just want to see how you are going to attach a bag and tent and whatever else to the back of a 796....

I haven't seen any of the bags in person but I figured you could remove the seat cowl and strap one down on the passenger seat.  I could use the cowl mounting bolts to attach a mounting point as well, but it's tough to say without seeing the bags with the bike.  I figure someone here must have some experience with a bag on the back, and Twisted Throttle says they'll fit, but I'd like a second opinion.  :)

IMHO...you will want somekind of rack on there as a support system...I used to strap all manner of things to my old Monster that I equipped with a Ventura rack...and I had a high mount exhaust, so the rack was crucial for raising my stuff up off the exhaust cans and pipes and give something solid to strap to that wouldn't damage any of my strapping from heat or anything....it also keeps that stuff off signals and bodywork for visability...

I have an '06 M620 so I have the lower exhaust.

I have a Cortech Sportbike tail bag and the saddle bags. Love them!
The tail bag can be used solo or snapped to the saddle bags, I've used
it both ways and am very satisfied. I take the seat cowl off first though. All
the bags are expandable. I've taken the system on several week long camping
trips and haven't had a problem. I also use a medium size cargo net, just in
case I find other stuff to bring home! I ditched the worthless rain covers and
use a waterproof stuff sack in each bag. That way you don't have to remove the
saddle bags or tail bags at night. Just take the bags out.

Thanks for the replies so far.  I've got stock exhaust but may change that eventually, except I'm not sure I want anymore noise from the bike yet. 

I'll see what other replies pop up in here with more suggestions and then I'll do a solid search on the net this weekend and place an order.  I've got to buy something before my wife changes her mind!  ;D

Whatever you end up deciding please post a pic, that dryspec rig looks really long and I'd be curious to see how it fits on your bike!

•sleeping pad (hiking compact)
•sleeping bag (hiking compact)
   ....and i don't cheap on comfort when it's time to choose for comfy sleeping.

SADDLE BAGS:

one side: rain suit - warm sweat shirt - spare tank top - spare socks - short - few spare slip - Bikini - Beach towel - travel personal wash bag

other side: first aid kit - some urgency bike tools - cook set - salt & pepper - olive oil - flashlight - flip flop - and the most important wine opener with my stainless camping glass.
