If anyone can please help it would be greatly appreciated!
I wrecked my duck and she landed in the marsh. I took care of everything that needed too immediately I have been going over all the issues all winter and getting close to the real riding season! I had it to where I could get her started and turned over. Went through all the connections over the winter with cleaner and Dielectric grease. After all that everything seemed to work well. As I was working on other issues I thought I was getting closer to starting her. Now I get nothing when I go to turn her over. I thought it was the starter relay so I replaced that and still nothing.
The battery is charged
I have a good kill switch and starter button according to volt meter
Starter relay/solenoid have been replaced (if i by pass with a screw driver it turns over?)
It seems like my problem lies between the ignition/starter switch and the starter solenoid, but what could it be? All the connections seem to be good and clean. I have all my lights, gauges, signals, and instrument lights.
Thanks!
Check the little plug at the solenoid.
Sorry, I did check the plug at the solenoid for both current and continuity and I have nothing there for either. The crazy thing I I was able to turn it over when I was workng on it and as I was getting to the end of buttoning it up I now have this starting issue?
Check the kill switch for continuity.
Check for power at the main relay terminal 30. Power there? Jump terminal 30 to terminal 87. If the bike now starts replace the relay.
No power at terminal 30? Possible break in harness running down steering head.
Continuity at kill switch. Do your numbers refer to the shop manual? The relay has been replaced?
Standard relay terminals, probably written on the bottom of your relay. 86 is ground, 85 is trigger, 30 is voltage in, 87 is voltage to component. I'm not sure since I don't have a 2000 wiring diagram, but I think 30 is fed by a brown wire and you should have a red/yellow and a red from 87. The red wire must receive power or the bike won't start.
Thanks, I hope to check this out tonight!
Thanks for your help so far here is what I have:
Fully Charged Battery
When ignition is on I get all lights both idiot and running lights working properly
Continuity at both kill switch when on
Continuity at starter button when pressed
Starter Solenoid test good
Relay: Power at terminal 30 and 87 about 12 volts, but if I jump 30 to 87 I get nothing?
Replaced main 40amp fuse
Still nothing when I turn the ignition on and press the starter button.
One additional thing the diode at the starter relay broke but it was not starting before that and I think that is only to absorb(probably not the right word) the extra energy when starter is disengaged.
Any ideas or solutions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Do you hear the solenoid click when you hit the starter button?
Are you getting power to the red/blue wire in that little white connector on the back of the solenoid when you hit the starter button?
First of all, here's a nice color wiring diagram that I sort of made (improved a black and white one), in case you don't have something like that. 2000 M750 Color Wiring Diagram (http://www.mediafire.com/view/?ht6eedkddeiyd5k).
Check if you are getting power to the kill switch / starter button controls. I think the wiring harness for those is attached to the U bracket that holds on the headlight, but I could be wrong. Pin A, which corresponds to the red/black wire, should be getting 12V when the bike is on, so with the connector apart and the bike on, measure the voltage at that pins with respect to ground (hook up your black multimeter lead to the negative battery terminal). If that isn't getting voltage, it doesn't matter whether or not your kill / starter switch works. If it isn't 12V, trace that red/black wire to where it came from and look for problems between the kill switch and the relay that powers the kill switch. Then check the relay that powers the red/black wire for the kill switch (according to my wiring diagram, it should have one grey wire and three red/black wires). The grey wire is connected to ground through the side stand switch, so you could check that, then if that checks out, follow the red/black wire to the fuse box where it gets power from the main relay.
Good luck!
No click and no power to the red/blue wire when I hit the starter switch. Thanks for the color diagram much better then what I have. I will check the power to the swtiches as I have only tested continuity. Thanks!
hate to ask, but did u try starting with the kickstand up? this assumes you didn't bypass the kickstand sensor.

I think (maybe thought) the sidestand switch started in 2001, 2000 and earlier equipped with the self retracting (suicide) sidestand. Easy enough to tell, RodeoClown. Lift the seat. One relay + flasher, suicide sidestand. Two relays + flasher, safety switch.
i have a 2000 750. no self retracting side stand.
Yes, it does have a safety stand and I tried both down and up with the stand and have good continuity through the switch(which I think means that is working ok). I am going to check power to the kill switch and starter button this evening and pour over the color diagram.
If you have a safety side stand that activates a relay, allowing the bike to start (assuming it hasn't been disabled). That is your other relay under the seat I mentioned in my last post. Same as the other, jump 30 and 87.
The switch on your 2000 might just activate a dash warning light.
Ok, so I have power going to the kill switch/start button. I tested the main relay and have power at 30 and 87, but if I try to jump 30 to 87 i get nothing. I am jumping them from the back side of the plug. While jumping do I need to then push the ignition button to see if I am getting anything? Today, I tested the side stand relay and I initially had power at 87 but not 30 I tried jumping this on from 87 to 30 and got nothing then when I tested again for power at the back of the plug while the relay is still plugged in I got no power at either 30/87? Suggestions, am I testing it wrong? I was thinking I will look into bypassing the side stand just to eliminate one variable? Thanks for all the help so far!
Update: So, I bypassed the side stand, crudely by jumping the connectors at the side stand plug, but got nothing but not sure if this even helps since the problems with current at the side stand relay mentioned above.
So, I am thinking of just replacing the Main and side stand relay. from what I have searched it looks like Napa AR634 should replace the side stand relay and AR274 or AR214 should replace the Main Relay. Does this sound right?
Thanks!
First off Howie, if our paths ever cross I owe you a beer. Not only from your posts in this thread but every other post you had in all the relay/starting issues/side-stand threads I read! So I went to Napa and got both a side stand relay and main relay. Replaced them and blew multiple fuse. Took everything in that area back apart and cleaned terminals and replaced everything and she turned over and blew no fuses. Switched out relays just to see if they were both bad. Turns out the side-stand relay was bad and the main relay intermittent. So put the new relays in and buttoned everything back up and hope to be test riding her tonight! Thanks for all the help and information provided.
Glad to hear you have the bike straightened out.
