Title: New 2010 696 mod suggestions.
Post by: deltasierra on May 06, 2012, 11:18:49 AM
Hi All.

First time posting on here.  Just got my brand new M696 about a month ago, and now it's time to Mod it up!

First couple things to go will be the tail (ordered the comp werkes eliminator kit) and the exhaust.  Having a tough time choosing exhaust though.  Just about at the 1000k break in, and the dealer has a Termi kit for a great price that he's been sitting on for a while, but idk....I think I might want something else.  Thinking the Leo Vince Evo II or possibly an Arrow slip on.

First question....I'm new to this, so please bear with me.  Does the ECU need to be re-mapped with the slip on cans?

Next question....Should I also swap out the air filter at the same time?  I might just order it all together, and again....ECU mapping?

Also thinking about changing to a 14T front sprocket.  No questions here.  Anybody care to share their experience with the change out?

Interested in hearing about other Mods people have done too!

Cheers from the cold in Winnipeg!

Simple changes

14t is a fine stateside mod
ECU will need to be changed with a hiflo air filter but not slipons

you won't like the quality of the CW tail kit, there are much better options

price your air filter, exhaust and ecu remap (via a rexxer dealer) and compare that to the termi set that has all three in one shot.

Thanks for the info!  I will look into some other tail kits.  Any suggestions for the other brands/kits?

probably be just as good in Canada too  [thumbsup]  Worked well for me down here in the other end of the Commonwealth  ;)

which fender eliminator kit is best in your opinion?

I'm a bit new to this myself, but I believe the Termi kit for the 696/796 includes the ECU and air filter as well.  Most of the others do not.  That's why it's called a "kit" because the dealer told me that the 696/796 only has a slip-on for the Termis.  The full header back is only for the 1100S/Evo.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but if others could also include whether their fuel economy was affected in their responses, that would be great.  That's my worry since I commute 100 miles a day on my 796.

I put the Competition Works fender eliminator on my '10 696 yesterday. Went on pretty easy. Seems to be sufficient quality. Got it from Monster Parts.

The evotech is getting pretty good reviews. I have the R&G Racing. There are a few other new ones. The CW is nowhere near the quality of those others mentioned

It is a kit with Filter, ECU and Cans.

gas mileage will go down.

Scratch that, I meant to say it is an EvoTech. I read the CW kit lacked polish so I went with EvoTech.

Sorry for the confusion there.

Thanks for all the suggestions!  I'll check out the EvoTech one.  I've already ordered the CW but if it's significant, I'll order the other.

Exhaust.....ugh.....so torn on which way to go!  Service is coming up soon so i damn well better figure it out!  ??? ???

Drop stock mirrors and pick up some rizoma reverse retros.  Heat up your frame stickers with a hair dryer and slowly remove them and keep them on a piece of paper.  Add some wheel stripes (reflective for added safety).  Either remove the extra stalk on the turn signals or replace them all together.  Replace stock headlight with some HID's.  Remove the plastic covering under the frame.  Replace stock grips with better ones.  Add sliders all around.  Powder coat the bracket that covers the middle of the headlight or replace it all together.  Change the stock handlebar and add clip-ons or better handlebars.  Change the stock seat for a better one.  Get rear sets.  Change the forks for adjustability.

Lol.  Welcome.

Well I guess that's a good start at least.   [cheeky]
