Title: Gettysburg route
Post by: Aikidoka on June 25, 2008, 08:21:07 AM
Thinking of making a run on Distlefinks Sunday, assuming they are open.  Any good scenic routes from the Baltimore area?

falls road north, left onto blackrock road (rt. 88), when you get to roundabout take 3rd exit off roundabout to Lower Beckleysville Rd. (this is a small roundabout- you'll know you took Lower beckleysville rd. when you see a small skatepark on your left a couple hundred yards after you get off the roundabout), At the light go straight across route 30 (you are now on Houcksville Rd), turn right onto coon club road (this right sneaks up on you and the street sign is hard to see due to tree branches), at the stop sign go right onto Gorsuch rd., at stop sign make a right onto rt. 482 (hampstead mexico rd.), make a left onto Snydersburg rd, at stop sign go straight across rt. 27 (westminster manchester road) onto Sullivan road, at light make a right onto rt. 140, then take rt. 97 north to Gettysburg.

From Shawann and Falls road to Rt. 97 going this way is about a 45-60 minute ride, scenic and very fun. once you get onto 97 north it is straight and pretty boring to gettysburg (about 45 more minutes).

If these directions make no sense, PM me.

I think my brain just overloaded.   :P  Thanks for the route.  Hopefully I won't botch it too badly.  Was thinking about ice cream so much today I had to run out to Brusters in Middle River.  Mmmm....  Coffee Chocolate Chip

When you get on 97, you could turn left on Stone road and follow that to 194. Turn right and it will take you to littlestown, then continue on 97 north. Little diversion.  [thumbsup]

Nice route.  Can't wait to try it!

heads up Aikidoka...Google's steering ya wrong more than once on that link. I used to live in Hampstead and rode these roads all the time. A couple things obvious to me...
number's 14 and 15...when on Houcksville, you can't make a left onto S. Carroll St., it's a right.
number's 17 and 18...making a left onto Gorsuch from Shiloh will not take you to 482 unless you took a right onto Leister School rd to Gablehammer rd to 482. If you made a right from Shiloh onto Gorsuch you would hit 482 at the stopsign (Shiloh is a fun road by the way).
number's 23 and 24 are just plain wrong and don't make any sense.

That's as far as I got reading that Google mess [bang]

Oh I plan to write my directions based on your post.  I just think the map from Google is nice.

Ahhh, the google map is nice. But it is confusing at two points where you cross the road. One is at Houksville. You go straight across 30 from 88. the whole carroll st and all that just ignore. You get on Houksville and then turn right onto coon club. Then pick it up at gorsuch.

At the end of snidersburg, go straight across 27 and it turns into Sullivan, then pick up the instructions at lemon road.

It is a sweet route, hope it works out.

How did the route work out for you Aikidoka?

And what is Distlefinks?

It worked out great!  My coworker loved the route.  Distlefinks is a drive-in/soft serve shop outside Gettysburg.  We also went to the Farnesworth House to eat at their Tavern.  My coworker has a thing for women in period garb.  The fact that they were all cute of course helped.  I think we are going to try and go back up and stay and get a couple rooms at the Farnesworth House, which is supposed to be haunted, and then do some day rides in PA from there.  Thanks again for the route.

So now we are looking at running up to Gettysburg on a Friday or Saturday night, staying at the Farnesworth House and then riding out from there for the day.  Any suggestions on good routes out of Gettysburg?  No specific destination in mind.
