Title: Hard case Trunk
Post by: He Man on May 10, 2012, 07:43:20 PM
Anyone have a recommendation on a cheap trunk? I have a ventura rack with a passenger grab bar, was going to get some steel tubing from home depot, hit that pregnant dog up with some fire and bend it into a curve and weld it onto the bar.

this is the system i have
(http://www.ventura-bike.com/images/general/grabhandle2.jpg)

and im going to make it so i can put a base on it and try to install something like this... any opinions on this pack?

i found this guy on newenough.com

Sears used to have a givi knock off case for about $35. Not sure if they still have it.

I got one from JCWhitney that was a Givi Knockoff for about the same price( due to the latch seemingly like unobtanium for my Nonfango topcase on the Cagiva)....but I would get the Ventura Sport Rack and mount it and then mount the box to it....

edit:seems they went up in price a bit... -> http://www.jcwhitney.com/motorcycle/trunks/c14603j3s18.jcwx?filterid=u0 (http://www.jcwhitney.com/motorcycle/trunks/c14603j3s18.jcwx?filterid=u0)

but you can buy just the sport rack by itself for your bike from Ventura -> http://www.ventura-mca.com/products/components/sport-rack.aspx (http://www.ventura-mca.com/products/components/sport-rack.aspx) and then lop off the grab bar portion and have a platform to mount the box to that raises it up over your tailight to make it still visable...

Does it need to be enclosed or lockable?

If not... milk crate and bungee net is about as cheap as you get.

I'll not point out the obvious joke here...
But the milk crate isn't so uncommon in the ADV set.

Picked up a piece of steel. just need to make some triangles to stiffen the joint up and wait for the hardcase to come in the mail so i can know where to put the cross bracing. then call it a day.

Please, being a pretentious dick on a monster is like a cocksucker in a low end 3 series or a4 thinking they have something special.

Safely dismount the high horse sir.

Back when i first got the bike, givi rack arms, plywood, zip ties, milk crate that was sitting around the shed.

Really the milk crate was fantastic, kept some bungees in it, couldn't tell it was there one bit while riding.  And it drew so much contempt from the uppity image is everything crowd.

Found this givi case on ebay after about a month, its fantastic as well and removes in about 1 minute.

One issue I had with the givi arms is they do not work with the seat release key location on my fender delete.  So a new hole was drilled and the lock relocated.

Someone obviously did not read  the next post or get the joke...

I just welded the first part together, im going to find some steel plates to cut up triangles to stiffen up some of the corners just in case. but the biggest issue isnt the new part, its the bending of the orignal arms that connect to the bike. The extention is acting as  a 1.5' lever arm on the natural curve so im going to need to add a plate to that so it wont bent so easily.

Sorry was in the middle of going out the door didn't read the whole thread.

Seriously got a fair amount of shit from pricks cause I dared to put a milk crate on something so super and special as a Ducati.  Dinks.
