Title: Air Filter Rim Grease? Post by: uclabiker06 on June 25, 2008, 11:04:46 AM I popped open my air lid and took out the filter after approx 4K miles to inspect and there was a film of dirt in the box. So I used put some No Toil rim grease. But I don't know if that dirt came in from the edge or if it is normal for the paper filter to let in some dirt. I would think if rim grease made a difference it would come with rim grease from the factory but I don't know.
Title: Re: Air Filter Rim Grease? Post by: vwboomer on June 25, 2008, 11:56:29 AM I'd put a K&N filter in and not use the grease. I don't ride on gravel roads, but I've not seen any dirt in my airbox even with the lid being off for 4k miles.
My GasGas is the first bike that I've seen with grease around the filter, and it threw me for a loop the first time I saw it til I figured the purpose. Title: Re: Air Filter Rim Grease? Post by: ducatiz on June 26, 2008, 05:42:51 AM The K&N filter comes with lip grease, specifically says to put the grease in the channel and the holes there (this was my 900SS, filter DU900. I don't know if the DU9001 filters come iwth the grease.)
but I would use it. cheap insurance. silicone hi-temp is the best for that purpose. Title: Re: Air Filter Rim Grease? Post by: san zanobi on June 26, 2008, 06:12:58 AM I just ordered a DU-9001 from CA Cycleworks and will post whether or not the filter comes with grease once it arrives...
