I have an '09 696 that had a slow leaking slave cyl. Ordered the red STM as a replacement (part# SDU-R010 28mm. Seemed pretty straight forward. I had been having to bleed the clutch every few days or it would get a bit spongy but not unridable. I followed the directions for draining the fluid in the line and removed the hose at the banjo fitting on the slave and removed the 3 bolts and the sprocket cover (a lot of nastiness in there). The slave came of easy and the push rod pulled out about an inch before I realized it and unset it from the slave and pushed it back in. I went to install the new part and noticed that it was not setting correctly due to the push rod being out too far (about 1/4 inch). Also there was no place for the small o-ring to set into. I read on a board that you should reuse the o-ring but, that is not even an issue at this point since I can't get it to sit correctly anyway. I tried replacing the old one and bleeding the system but, IT WILL NOT BLEED! It's all back together (I had to push it on, possibly due to the rod issue?) and there is no fluid in the line. I loosened the fitting a 1/2 turn and filled the res slowly while slowly pumping the lever...nothing. The level does not go down and no fluid is coming into the clear tubing.
So, did the push rod coming partially out cause the first part of the fitment problem and how do I get it all the way back in? Secondly, why would it not pump fluid through at all?
Certainly no expert here in me, but since no one has chimed in I will give my thought. It seems that maybe the push rod has come out of the bearing in the pressure plate (I only have experience in DRY CLUTCH though). If it is similar I would remove the pressure plate and rod install the slave cylinder, install the rod and then the pressure plate. Make any sense? Normally you would not go through all of this but since you cant get the rod in as far as it should go it must be out of place on the other end...
