Title: route help please Post by: wantingaduc on June 25, 2008, 01:40:38 PM I was just hoping that some of you out here could provide me with some route information.
I’m planning a ride up through the Catskill area. Our first stop out of Bergen County will be Port Jervis. From there were heading North and West through Monticello and finally ending up in New Paltz. What I’m wondering is does anyone have experience with either Route 55 north, or the 40’s (41-42-43-44-45 north) connecting to 103-104-105-105a north? They both look like nice routes, passing some of the area lakes, and each just briefly passing through towns as they head north. It’s hard to tell from maps and Google earth if either route is any good, and even harder to tell if one is better then the other. So I was hoping that a few of you out here might have actually ridden any of the roads I’ve listed, and can tell me if either of them are worth doing? Or if you might be able to suggest some other roads in the area that are better then the ones I’m looking at. Thanks for the feedback guys. jimi Title: Re: route help please Post by: goldenchild on June 25, 2008, 04:14:38 PM I was just hoping that some of you out here could provide me with some route information. A not too thrilling but scenic ride? 44/55 is your choice. Hectic backroad twistys? Not gonna find it in the 'Skills. Fun but not demanding twistys? They're all over the place up there. I'd only be willing to share my favs if you came out on a ride to experience them. ;D Look at googlemaps and pretty much anything that you see that's not a biggish road (44/55, 209, anything in the #40's or #50's) should be fun. Just be warned that a lot of the roads north of PJ can have a really crappy surface (which I happen to love), or can be dirt & gravel. Also, DO NOT SPEED especially when rolling through a small town, lots of po po about... Title: Re: route help please Post by: CDawg on June 26, 2008, 05:13:47 AM Wantingaduc,
Do you have a garmin? If you do I can email you a .gdb If not: If you are going to Port Jarvis, Hawk's Nest is not to far away. I agree with GC; Route 55 is secnic, but not fast nor twisty Are you taking 17b to Monticello, if so motorcycleroads.com is wrong. It's pretty boring, pretty, but boring In the Catskills (not that I've been there a lot) I like Red Hill road near Denning CR-47 is pretty fun as well Northern half of Hwy 52 is pretty fun; hte southern half is scenic CR-55 near Minnewaska is pretty fun 28A is a nice sweeping road I'm curious about your 41~45 combo. LEt me know how it is. It has to be better than CR-55 though. Title: Re: route help please Post by: Got Duc on June 26, 2008, 01:08:20 PM pssst
