Title: How hard or easy to core exhaust? Post by: joon82 on May 19, 2012, 06:58:32 PM Just got dremel last week so plan to do some DIY.
How hard or easy to core exhaust? I have picture with description but need to know input from people who've done it before. So is 3-5 hr work worth it?(guessing 3-5 hr) Any tips to cut the welded tip? So far I did home powder coat spring, cap, and plate. Also made shape out of stock cover. It looks really good from distance but don't like it from close. My first metal/aluminum work. I tried to do my stock pipes and gave up shortly after starting. I did however shorten my SilMotos, and that was not too bad. My guess is that your 3 to 5 hours will probably end up like 6 to 10.

Post by: Dellikose on May 20, 2012, 05:32:31 AM I partially cored / chopped my stock cans. For those, you definately need more then a dremel.
Many say an angle grinder, I used a miter saw with a large abrasive wheel. My cuts didn't like up exactly since I sort of winged it. The hardest part was grinding down the tack welds to pop the caps off, and then hammering them out. I followed the tutorials that I found on the forum and they were all that I needed. Cutting apart both exhausts probably took 5 hours alone in time. You will need more than a dremel. The angle grinder is crucial. But note that even the 4 1/2 cutting wheel was having trouble reaching the inner baffle to cut at once side is deeper than the other inside the steel casing. I ended up just trying to make a whole diameter cut before I couldn't reach anymore of the metal and just bent it back and worth until it broke since steel is brittle.
Oh, and definitely wear safety goggles, gloves, and a mask. For me the hardest part was drilling out the riveting holes. That inner steel tip is a pregnant dog to get through. didn't take me 5 hours to cut them up, maybe 2 but definitely not 5 Title: Re: How hard or easy to core exhaust? My rivet holes aren't as straight and beautiful as yours =( BUT I installed it this afternoon. OMG the sound is intoxicating. All those hours of blood, sweat and a good bit of cursing I will say was well well worth it. |
