Title: VSDTS or Dobeck EJK or PCIII for 2004 S4R
Post by: Monstruo on May 21, 2012, 02:17:39 PM
Hi guys,

I recently opened the air box and changed to a K&N filter which resulted in a surging which happens between 3-5K rpm with a constant throttle. Once I apply throttle it disappears as well as when I am above 5K rpm. I am still using the stock exhaust horrible anchor...

While I know that opening the air box changed the fuel mixture, I was wondering if it could be fixed with the VSDTS (diagnostic tool) or do I need to buy a Dobeck card or Power Commander to fix this issue?

I am planning to add an Arrow full system shortly. According to Arrow and some suppliers, seems like this configuration does not require a Power Commander or Power Card at all.

Shall I buy the VSDTS to adjust the TPS and fuel mixture to fix this issue or shall I buy the Dobeck EJK? Or both?

Thanks

Alfredo

Are you running the stock ECU after you fit the Arrows?

I'd get the ECU reflashed and purchase a VSDTS for the little tweeks of the ECU and enjoy!

Yes. I am planning to keep the stock ECU and if needed, get the Dobeck EJK aka TB JuiceBox. Not very fond of the PC III though.

I do see the value of reflashing the ECU but I would like to have a little control over the mapping. I am getting the Arrows in about 4 weeks (directly from Italy) and I will see then what would be the best course of action. According to sites like motovationusa and even Arrow itself, they all say that fitting the Arrow full system does not require remapping...therefore adjusting with the VDSTS might be enough...we'll see.

In the mean time, I have already ordered the Technoresearch Centurion VDSTS...hopefully I will be playing with it to check the open airbox issue by the end of the week  ;D

Thanks

Yeah, I've got the Technoresearch VDSTS for my S2R1K. I've found it to be great value particularly for setting up your ECU and for checking how the bike is running during servicing.

Good luck with it!
