Title: The Holy Grail - A Mod that pays for itself. Post by: Speeddog on May 23, 2012, 08:17:41 PM I've been running a '98 M750 for a while as a commuter.
Actual mileage somewhat suspect, as it was purchased salvaged 2 owners ago. But with the info I've got, it's got no less than 22k on it. It was obviously running rich, as it never needed any choke to start, and smelled plenty rich to boot. So, a jet kit was in order. Got a Factory Pro kit, CRB-D08-1.1-TI, and a set of their Nickel plated emulsion tubes/needle jets, CRZ-EMU-100120K. All up cost is ~$178, depending on where you're at. Prior to installation, it had a pretty severe 'sag' as the slides opened, and was generally a bit unhappy with cruising at 35mph or so in the urban flog. Averaged 40 mpg on a mostly freeway commute. Installed the kit and the needle jets, noting that the carbs were in decent shape, O-rings and gaskets were good. Reset the float levels, as they were a bit high. Immediate impression was a vastly improved quality of running, smooth and linear, no sag, and it actually needed the choke a bit to get it started. I've only run two tanks of fuel through, but... It's now getting 52.4 mpg. At ~$4.40 a gallon here in SoCal, it'll take about 6800 miles for it to pay off. At my rather high mileage commute, that's about 2.5 months. Wish I had done it back in January when I started commuting on it, the kit would be paid off and saved over half of the cost of the tires I just bought. Or one that can be modified easiest for such a feat... 52mpg is great.. my 620 sees numbers like that. Even if I'm beating it, it doesn't seem to drop below 40mpgNow the KTM [laugh] , that thing will do close to 50 when going easy but drop somewhere below 30 when you whip it. So an administrator amends your post because it was political and you post the comment again? What don't you understand? Title: Re: The Holy Grail - A Mod that pays for itself. Post by: Nomad on May 26, 2012, 07:30:54 AM I've got a '96 M900 with FCR's. I was getting 43 mpg, when I run ethanol free gas I get 52 mpg.

What don't you understand? This ..... and your comment, a guy posts up about what they pay for fuel in another country comparing it to what we pay, I point out pump price on US gas is misleading. It's an economic statement simple as that. I didn't mention any right or wrong and absolutely nothing about any political party ? I do apologise for the threadjack and misinterpretation of my post. The mods can run this board any way they see fit. 2.2. Posting about religion or politics or shoptalk are allowed on a probationary basis, but limited to the Politics board. <edit: this didn't work, so the politics boad is gone. politics, religion, and cop-bashing are not allowed> Title: Re: The Holy Grail - A Mod that pays for itself. Since I went to FCR 41s, I get about 25 miles more from a tank, but it will take awhile to get my money back on that one! Title: Re: The Holy Grail - A Mod that pays for itself. Post by: Nomad on May 26, 2012, 08:57:44 PM Ha, yeah, tell me about it. I don't know what my mileage was before the FCR's, but the non-ethanol definitely helps.
