Title: M600 Speedo cable and twin headlight conversion problem Post by: Wildfire on May 26, 2012, 10:16:33 AM Has anyone converted to twin headlights and overcome the problem of the speedo cable being bent at a sharp angle as it cannot clear the back of the twin lights?
I have just written off the cable on my M600 after fitting the twin lights. It seems a choice of moving the clocks up or making up new headlight brackets that push the lights further out. I have taken the speedo cable off since, which I hate because I cannot gauge how much fuel remains in my tank with the lack of the tripmeter. I was going to bring the lights forward with some brackets, but it wouldnt look right. raising the cluster would also look out of place. the lower everything is, the more streamline it looks.
I then thought of drilling a hole thru the headlight housing and running the speedo cable thru, but that would just be a problem if water ever got in. I'm giving up on the duals, going back to the stock headlight and probably retrofit an HID kit. I find the duals give really crappy light. They are for sale if interested. Have you thought about swapping the speedo for one from say Trailtech or Acewell that uses a magnetic pick up to measure wheel revolutions? I swapped back to the stock light, lowered everything and its improved my lighting drastically. Its personal preference but after having both setups, I'm favoring the look of the lowered stock light setup. The duals do look a little small for the front of the bike, and I guess I just got tired of that look and poor light output. They are an easier swap for guys with the speedo pickup that comes off the back wheel. I now may retro-fit a newer Monster headlight to give the front end of the bike a more modern look. Rising the instrument panel about 1/2" with two sleeves was what i did on my bike. Another thing you can do is to lower the headlight bracket. You can find it in the tutorial section. I eventually went to a trailtech unit.
