I'm trying to organise some new guides to go in my '07 695 heads. My bike has 7mm valve stems, unlike a lot of 2V ducs, so takes different guides to many.
I'd like to use aftermarket ones, if only so that I can bore people about how my duc has valve guides made from sintered unobtanium impregnated with turgid yak fat.
In the aftermarket world, guides seem to be divided into either 4V (7mm), 1000/1100 (7mm) or 2V (8mm). Discounting the 8mm guides, which clearly won't work, that leaves me a choice between 4V and 1000/1100. AV&V http://www.av-v.com/valve_guides3.htm (http://www.av-v.com/valve_guides3.htm) quote dimensions for the 4V and 1000/1100 guides (made from manganese bronze - that's gotta be good) which are helpfully identical.
If I look up OEM part numbers, I find that my guides are different from both the 4V bikes and the 1000/1100 (though the differences in part number are subtle). Further, monster 4V guides and sbk 4V guides have a completely different part no.:

So what's the go? Is there an idiot's guide to valve guides? I'd prefer not to waste money on parts that subtly won't fit.
I have something fancy that Kämna uses - maybe he can set you up.

I wouldn't recommend buying Ducati guides.
They aren't any better than the one's in there now.

Ducpainter's link to KibbleWhite is good, I'd shoot them an E-mail to see if they have any info on non-1000/1100 7mm guides.
I'd imagine the 1000/1100 guides are slightly different due to the revised head design, compared to the 620/695/750/800/900 series.
this guy I know uses an even harder, slick metal (won't even tell me the properties) that lasts and lasts with no discernable wear.
you can do the best valve seat job and it will last and give great flow and compression without the normal Ducati burnt exhaust valve issues.

Ah hah! Figured it out.
If I go to commoto and add the oem parts for my '07 695 to a cart, it tells me this:

The same part numbers comes up for most all DS engines (monster S2R 1000, Multi 1000, Monster 1100, etc). So I'm now confident that either the kpmi 1000/1100 or AV&V 1000/1100 guides are a goer.
