Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: ungeheuer on May 28, 2012, 06:03:30 PM very nice, but they cost too much. the prices I saw were from 18k to 20k+. Shit :o Twenty grand??Thats almost as much as an M1100 where I live [laugh] In a harking back to yesteryear kinda way it does look nicer than many of the other retros out there.... Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: xcaptainxbloodx on May 28, 2012, 06:09:24 PM its a cool bike, but for 20g's I could build a spectacular street bike with money to spare for a track beater.
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: The ModFather on May 28, 2012, 07:01:13 PM My local Duc Shop is going to be carrying these now. Give it a few years and there will be used ones floating around on ebay for $12-14K with 5K miles on them. That'll be a good time to bite.
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: HotIce on May 28, 2012, 08:46:02 PM I like it a lot. Even more than a lot [drool]
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: Ducatamount on May 29, 2012, 03:10:12 AM Be careful about putting money down on one,if it is not in stock. Most of their waiting list bikes have been delivered to customers in the UK as opposed to USA.Many people here have asked for their refund back after waiting over a year.Support will be few and far between.
They have a 270 degree crank firing order(old ones,360) making them sound more like a Ducati (not a bad thing) than the old Norton snarl. Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: muskrat on May 29, 2012, 03:20:22 AM [drool]
Too bad the dollar isn't strong enough against the pound. Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: Travman on May 29, 2012, 05:23:26 AM I've been interested in the new Nortons since the Kenny Dreer days. I've come to the conclusion that it isn't going to happen. No bikes have been delivered in the U.S.
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: Bishamon on May 29, 2012, 06:16:25 AM Gorgeous, but overpriced.
You could pick up a Sport 1000 for a lot less (though the prices seem to keep increasing) and perform some upgrades. Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: The ModFather on May 29, 2012, 06:34:54 AM According to the official NortonMotorcycles the 2012 Commando 961 SE is SOLD OUT. The Cafe Racer and Sport Editions are still available. I think with what you'd pay for a Sport 1000 these days (when you can find one) after Ohlins upgrades etc. you'd be pretty close to $20K especially if you're not doing the upgrades yourself and thats for a used bike. Here's a brand new bike in the crate... again if you can get one. Not to mention the Sport 1Ks albeit beautiful [drool] are supposedly "uncomfortable to ride" but I guess that opinion can be subjective.
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: The ModFather on May 29, 2012, 08:46:03 AM Not to mention... Picking up a finished rebuilt Norton can set you back between $25K-$50k easily.

Really?Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: Ducatamount on May 29, 2012, 10:00:07 AM No,not really. There are a couple of nice ones on ebay right now and most go between $6000 and $10000.
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: mickyvee on May 29, 2012, 10:19:57 AM [thumbsup] I saw one of the new Norton's actually in the flesh, on Sunday. I had a good look round it, and I have to say, I was very impressed. Sadly there was no sign of the owner, so I didn't hear it running. If I hadn't just bought an EVO, I would be seriously tempted!
Title: Re: Gotta say... the 2012 Norton Commando looks mighty nice Post by: The ModFather on May 29, 2012, 01:09:12 PM Really? Only if you get them from a known Norton Rebuild Shop where they take the whole engine apart and clean and rebuild every aspect (like Colorado Norton Works). You can get private rebuilds for $4k-$10k. But they're not as nice. The factory is just down the road from me and I occaisionally see these around my local area - price aside they are amazing - if I won the lottery I said I'd buy one for my Dad, but now I think I'd get one for us both [thumbsup] A friend of mine has been round the factory and I keep pestering him to get me down for a visit as well - they dont do tours but we work in the careers industry (teenagers) and these gems pop up as employer visits from time to time. I doubt you are allowed to take photo's but if I'm able to I'd get some up here straight away. |
