Title: ECU Questions
Post by: Hershell on June 09, 2012, 02:04:52 PM
I bought an Term kit online for a 2010 M1100 ABS bike. I own a 2009 M1100s. It was a real  good deal if you are wondering why I bought the wrong ECU.

I installed it a few day ago the bike runs good and I can tell a difference in the power. But I have two issues. 1st is the speed O doesn't work which is understandable. The 2nd is my hard starting issue didn't go away.

I called AMS in Dallas and asked about reflashing my Stock ECU she said it would be $500 but that was a dyno tuned ECU.  I looked on Houston superbikes site and it is $250 for a reflash.  I know the custom tune will be better, but is it worth the extra money? Does anyone know what the Houston Superbike reflash changes? will it fix the hard starting issue and does it change the Rev limiter?  All I need is for the thing to start when I push the start button and run good. Has anyone had either one of these done before by AMS or Houston?

Since you have not gotten a reply here I suggest posting this in the "accessory & mod" section and get it in front of a larger audience.

Thanks.. I called them both and asked a lot of questions. I sent the ECU to Houston Superbikes. I didn't get a good feeling about AMS on the phone. They were not willing to flash the ECU and not do a dyno tune. If you know the DP flash works and thats what the customer wants, why not just sell them what they want.

I still have a starting issue. I think it is going to be a battery issue. I put it on the battery tender for a few hours and it started on the 1st try. I'm going to try a battery upgrade and see if that helps.

Keep us posted. I'm interested in the results of your reflash as I have an '09 M1100.

I will....

They received it yesterday, so I should have it next week. It will be the following Monday before I will have time installed it.  I'll be making a trip to Alabama this week. I'm going to order a new battery, Ballistic Evo2 8 cell, while I'm there I hope it solves my starting issue.

I'll have a DP ECU for a 2010 ABS Monster for sale when I get the new map it, if anyone needs one.

you didn't read my post did you.  [laugh]

I called them on my way home Friday. After a week and no call I called them and asked what was going on. They told me they can't flash the ECU.  They wanted to charge me for sending it back. I raised hell about it so they decided to give me a full refund, but I still haven't received a refund on my CC. I talked to two different people in length about what I wanted before I sent it to them neither one of them said anything about not being able to do it. I told them the everything about my bike.

They did try to sell me a new DP ECU for $550.00 I didn't get it.

These are the most incompetent bunch of people I have ever delt with.  I don't know how in the hell they stay in business.

Did they explain why they were unable to reflash it?

yes I did but you posted after me so I obviously read it afterwards.
So no explanation?  Who did you speak with?

Nope. They just told me they couldn't flash that kind of ECU.  I'm going to call AMS in Dallas Tue.

From my experience, I've just bit the bullet and let AMS do the work. $$$. They gave me good
results on both bikes. Keep in mind I never hassle anyone (just my own personality).
Good luck [thumbsup]

Tres... Thanks for the info I will give them a call today. I just moved to Texas and don't know who to trust. I thought Houston was a good place, man was I  wrong. I don't mind spending the extra money if I need to. It looks like I need to.   [beer]

I stopped by AMS the other day and talked to them.  I'm going to take my bike over there this Friday if everything works out. I'm looking foward to getting this bike running right.

I've had two Ducatis serviced there - 50,000 miles between the two - over the last ten years and I've yet to find anything they can't fix.  They know their stuff and are easy to deal with to boot  [beer]

I'm an AMS fan too...

If they tell you they can do something you can count on it.   [thumbsup]

They know their stuff.
And Jordan (AMS Master Mechanic) lives just a few blocks from me

...so I get to stop by and drink his beer sometimes  [beer]

Thanks for the replies guys.  I went to AMS and had them program my ECU this morning. I only took about 2hrs so I waited while they did it.
So far I’ve put about 60 miles on the new ECU map. I can tell a big difference in the power, it’s a lot smoother than before.  I can I’m pretty happy with the results. I guess the only thing I wish they would have done, is a before and after dyno so I would how much of a difference the ECU made. At least it would have made me feel better about spending the money.

I also installed a Ballistic 8cell Evo2 battery last night. My 1st attempt to start kind of scared me the bike made a funny noise and wouldn’t do anything. I tried it again and it was fine and started up. This morning the bike started the 1st time. In 4 months the bike has never started that easy after not being ridden after several hours.

Here is the dyno chart from AMS Ducati
