Title: more LEGROOM on your old monster?
Post by: showerfan on June 17, 2012, 01:38:12 PM
fyi, i'm a tall guy (6'4", 200 lbs) with an original monster ('99 m900) and i have been searching long and hard for solutions to stretch out my stems a little bit -- because these old carbies are designed for little european people [laugh] (kidding)

but if you want another inch (hold your silly jokes, you dirty bastards ;D) beyond what your current *aftermarket rearsets* give you, i have been told this $70 fix is awesome: http://www.desmotimes.com/product19a.htm (http://www.desmotimes.com/product19a.htm)

or, if you want to add some space on your *stock setup*, both slingshot racing and ducati designs offer solutions:
$120: http://www.slingshotracing.net/catalog/ducati-cnc-billet-adjustable-foot-pegs-p-270.html (http://www.slingshotracing.net/catalog/ducati-cnc-billet-adjustable-foot-pegs-p-270.html)
$166: http://www.ducatidesigns.com/inc/sdetail/3794/3797 (http://www.ducatidesigns.com/inc/sdetail/3794/3797) (not sure what makes DD so much more expensive)

i wanted some cycle cat unobtanium rearsets -- which do it all! -- but could not wait that long  :'(, so i will try one or both of those solutions on rizomas (rizoma also sells foot peg adaptors which may fit the slingshot extenders -- not sure). will post back here as i get results.

i am also trying to lift my rear end -- hoop style, would love any other suggestions on THAT annoying problem -- and am installing a sargent seat (i hear they get you higher) and cycle cat clip-ons to stretch out. as far as i hear, CC makes the best damn clip-ons in the world -- now i need to figure out how to deal with the holes in my stock top triple. suggestions?

and ANY THOUGHTS FROM OTHER TALL RIDERS APPRECIATED  [thumbsup]

Ummm cyclecat is back in business, but don't know if they have a wait time.

see that! and i may well buy them, just want to check to see if my mechanic (who, i'm pretty sure, thinks i'm an idiot [coffee]) has some already or even knows what to do with them. i am not about to attempt this mod myself -- don't have the knowledge or the skill, let alone the *anchors* in my garage to do it...

raising the rear end won't address the issue as the pegs and hangers are mounted to the frame, so they move up with the rear end and the distance from seat to pegs remains the same.

I just ordered a set of cheap adjustable pegs from hongkong, off ebay. I haven't received them yet so cannot report anything.

no, i know that. that's why i listed options a and bb. but i feel like i'm sitting in a fourth-grader's chair with the height of this bike. my '03 620 was raised higher!

I used the 20mm spacers for the hoop & also got the Chinese
Adjustable footrests 25mm
I also lowered my forks to the top of the triples
All this combined gave me a little more leg room.
Plus I like the look of the rear kicked up!!
