Title: S4Rs - Just Died

Hi Guys - I'm a newbie to this forum so please excuse any basic errors.

First off the bike - A 2007 S4RS with full Termi system, DP ECU and airbox mod.

Never had a problem but yesterday on a short ride out she just stopped dead - like someone had flicked the kill switch off.

Recovered her back home and started to take a look:

No warnings lights of any kind - all is completely normal.
Fuses are all fine
Checked the front cylinder and found a fat healthy spark
Fuel pump activates when the ignition is turned on

Dealer is suggesting fuel filter. I've read about issues with fuel lines inside the tank becoming disconnected but not sure if this affects Monsters or not

Any ideas?

The fuel line coming off can affect any model with the pump in the tank.

Has anyone been inside to service the filter?

Right, thanks - I just saw reports of the fuel line issue in relation to GT1000s.

No, so far as i know the filter hasn't been touched from day 1. The bike only as 5,500 miles on the clock (to my shame!  :-[) I'm doubtful about the filter being the issue as the bike has a plastic tank. Could always have had some dodgy fuel I guess.

Still, if the tank needs to come apart to check the lines it makes sense to slip in a new filter i guess.

Filters in a high pressure system are more prone to clogging than in gravity systems.

Tank material wouldn't affect it I don't think.

It definitely makes sense to change it if you go in there.

Remove the seat and check to see if the volt reg is fried.

What you described happend to me, and then I found this...

That's ugly - the whole thing could of gone up in smoke. Did you discover what caused it or is it just another Ducati electrical mystery?

The one on mine looks OK.

I'm in the middle of fitting a new fuel filter. All the pipes in the tank seem OK and whilst there was some black "silt" in the filter it did blow through OK once it was removed from the pump assembly. Maybe all the handling and shaking associated with removing it had disturbed the blockage.

Hope I'm not dealing with an intermittent fuel pump problem   ???

It did go up in smoke.

If yours is still mounted under the seat, it is not okay.  These things need air flow to keep cool.  Sorry about your apparent fuel issues and hope you get those sorted.  But I suggest that when you can you relocate the voltreg.

Sorry to hear that - was it a write off or did you manage to rebuild it again?

Mine is still as it came from the factory. I haven't heard about this issue before but will do some research. Looking at all the fins on the unit you can imagine that a flow of air is needed to remove the heat.

No, sorry.  LOL.  The bike didn't go up in smoke (though it was in a small cloud for a bit).  The regulator went up in smoke.

Problem solved...........

New fuel filter, a handful of stainless hose clips and she fired up first time.
