I bought a 2005 S2R800 about 2 and half years ago. I have enjoyed every minute of it.
Its time to replace my chain and sprockets.
While looking closely at the sprockets I noticed the front sprocket is a 14Tooth and the rear is a 40Tooth.
I've read on the board about the 14T front sprocket mod but I don't think that a 40Tooth rear is stock.
What exactly is a 14T front and 40T rear doing for me?
Like I said I like the ride and have no complaints.
What could I except if I replace the rear sprocket with an OEM part. I'm assuming the stock rear has more teeth than 40.

stock size on the 05 is listed as 15/42
14/40 is lower in the front but higher in the back...should be pretty close to stock.
most people like gearing a little lower like a 14/42 or 15/44
If you are changing the set, go back to a 15 tooth front for better chain life and less wear on your chain guide. Bump the rear up accordingly.
A 14/40 setup is approximately equivalent to a a 15/43, which is a good mix between acceleration and highway manners.
14/42 is pretty peppy, but pretty rough on the chain and chain guide especially if you have raised the rear at all. I'm going 15/44 in a few hundred miles.
You can get even bigger rear sprockets if you stick with a non-quick-change setup, but I go through a set in a year... if it was 2.5 years a set I probably would have stuck with the normal kind.
Agreed on the 15t front.
A 44 or 45t rear will give you better acceleration.
It will also reduce top end by a small amount.
