Title: DP Saddlebag 2010 HELP needed
Post by: wizzobeer on June 28, 2012, 08:23:32 PM
So I just got the DP saddlebag set for the new Monsters. Big sigh... there are four, 5mm hex bolts that need to come off to attach the rack. I went in dry, no luck, added some lube, didn't budge, made her hot, still no go, hammered her hard with the impact, not an inch. Did all three at once and now have four stripped heads. So I took the trusty dremel and cut a notch for the flat head impact (BIGGER SIGH). I figure I need to drill them out and replace. Does anyone know the specs for the fasteners i need to replace? I tried to do a search but had no luck.

TIA

So I found this: http://www.ducatiomaha.com/products.asp (http://www.ducatiomaha.com/products.asp)

and it looks like a M8x16

Can anyone confirm this is correct? I would like to source the fasteners before I drill her hard

must have been some serious thread locker on there... be sure to use something a little less aggressive when you put em back in.
if you can get one out, you can confirm the threads and size down at your local hardware store, or if you have a bolt/thread measuring thingy like i got from pro-bolt.

then just order some new ones... get something nice, and stronger.

did you try like an 8-foot long breaker bar by chance?

also, they aren't left-hand thread are they?!

Nope not left hand! The bolts are just mush, after I applied the heat a gentle twist would get them stripping

The measurements in my second post are the correct ones. Just in case someone has the same problem.

[thumbsup] When I bought my DP saddlebag kit, my dealer installed it free of charge. After reading this post I am rather glad that they did!

Had same problem when I put on racks.

Got one or two, stripped others,  ended up just drilling them out and replacing with proper threaded bolts from an assortment here.
