Not building pressure vessels, but wind turbine towers, and they are thoroughly tested. Not sure what Your weld procedeure is, but I am assuming it's Sub-Arc?.  First is qualification of machines and weld filler materials, flux etc. Is it correct for the application, then operator qualification, Engineered weld procedeure, standardized application etc. once the weld is complete then there is a visual inspection for bead dimension,overfill-underfill, porosity etc. From there to ultrasonic testting for any inclusions, lack of fusion, lamination etc.  All the parameters for testing are engineered for Your specific application, there is a lot more to it, You might start with the AWS, as they are the experts, there should be local companies that do independent testing also. hope this sheds a little light, good luck with the job [thumbsup]     KRJ
