Title: 1098 cans on your old monster? Post by: showerfan on June 30, 2012, 08:28:55 PM anybody here ever use 1098 cans on an older monster? i know Ducatl did it, and it looks awesome! i want to do it too, but putting one on each side and running them low like the stock/carbon pipes on my '99 m900. i'm wondering now, what will it sound like and will the swap be easy enough? here is one of Ducatl's pics (he has since changed), just to show you (him) which cans i mean:

Post by: thorn14 on July 01, 2012, 09:44:23 PM The problem with using two 1098 cans is they are a different diameter (larger), and in his case, he was using a 2-1 system. Which by the way, looks so sick.
If cored, it'd likely sound loud and amazing (how I would imagine), but it would be difficult to get two to fit, let alone one having to go to the larger diameter which I believe is 50-54mm for the stock cans while the stock headers are 40mm? Good to know.... Im getting my 2 into 1 header made...can't wait and still deciding which can to go with Title: Re: 1098 cans on your old monster? Post by: showerfan on July 02, 2012, 05:17:03 PM aesthetically it would be sweet to go with the stock street fighter exhaust, the one that is kind of a powdery silver and changes to a darker color at the ends. that's what i was originally thinking would be so awesome about the stock 1098 exhaust. check out these sf stock cans, for example, on ebay (they are pictured upside down -- and even backwards in one pic -- but you get the idea):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slip-on-Exhaust-ECU-Heat-Shield-for-Ducati-Street-Fighter-2011-2012-/230819103937?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AStreetfighter&hash=item35bde404c1&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1282 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slip-on-Exhaust-ECU-Heat-Shield-for-Ducati-Street-Fighter-2011-2012-/230819103937?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AStreetfighter&hash=item35bde404c1&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1282) problem is, i just don't think they'll sound as sweet as the termis most people already have. even cored i hear they don't have that deep, guttural tone that we all associate with a ducati termignoni exhaust. i am back to the drawing board, and now thinking maybe these mivv cans would be baller, and set my cans apart from the typical look of all classic monster set-ups: (http://www.brspecialtuning.co.uk/Oval-Carbon-Cap.jpg) they are a bit shorter than the old termis, plus i have heard they are loud as fu(k when the db-killers are out. ;D but they are not as cheap as buying someone's old stock cans off of ebay. :'( side note: *ducatiscotty* has been very cool about canceling my order.
