Hey all. First off I'm green to the ducati world so bear with me. I have a leak coming from what is in the picture. What is this part called and how do I fix it. Thanks!!

I believe that is the oil pressure switch. I recently had to get mine replaced as it was leaking also. It's about a $40 dollar part from ducati.
There is a gasket that goes underneath that sensor. Make sure it is there.
Alright so oil pressure switch. I think it is just broken because if you look at the picture blown up (i included the direct link at the bottom of this post) the cable that goes into the top of the switch is cracked and it seems like the oil is coming from that yellow part...How easy is this to replace on my own...It seems difficult all ziptied in place and all.

Cut zip ties. Remove the electrical connector, find a wrench or deep socket to fit, turn counter clockwise. There is a crush washer on the bottom as a seal. Torque spec is 19mm. 1/4 turn beyond hand tight will work. Reconnect wire, replace zip ties.
thanks howie!
now to get the part...
should i just call up a dealer?
That's what I would do. One of our sponsors, Ducati Seatle or Commonwealth can probably get one to you quickly if your local dealer doesn't have one in stock.
Forgot to say, I wouldn't ride the bike until you get the switch.
Howies probably right about not riding with it leaking, but…
If it's not pissing oil out, and the oil light on the dash is functioning normally (ie, it's on before you crank the motor, goes off pretty quickly as the motor starts, and comes back on shortly after stopping the motor), I've ridden for quite some time with a slowly weeping oil pressure sensor (I'm onto number 4 or 5 on mine now…)
As I said, Howie is giving you the prudent advice. Personally, if I needed the bike to get to work, or if I was going to miss out on a fun weekend ride, I'd just ride it (and keep half an eye out for it starting to leak quicker or for the oil pressure warning light to start behaving abnormally).

I've seen oil pressure switches instantly go from weep to gush. It is under pressure. If you must ride the bike, find a bolt of the same size and a suitable (the old one will probably work) and plug it.
Alright sounds good. I went from not knowing what the part was called to knowing how to replace it...more than I could have asked for!!!

Hmmm, nasty. Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I've gotten lucky - the first one what went on me I rode round with it weeping for maybe 6 or 8 weeks while my dealer (unsuccessfully) tried to get a few-days-out-of-warranty replacement for me...
(Now I've got a known-good spare on the shelf, so I won't need to risk it again…)

This is a convo I just had with someone else:
--------------------------
ME: BUT do you see where that yellow is showing at the top of the sensor. I think the oil might be coming from there because i think it crack open there...also im not having trouble finding the part...bleh
PRO: The yellow part is the wiring harness, sure it's leaking from there. The pressure sensor has a leak and the harness is not water tight so it's showing up there. Part of the reason why you haven't gotten a part number yet is you have failed to communicate to us what bike you are even referencing. I'm only guessing because of the "wet clutch" and using M750 as a base, that part number is 53940301a. However that part number has been superseded by 53940302a and is $44 from Ducati Omaha.
ME: Haha oh wow I totally forgot to mention my bike. I have a 2002 m620. Is that part still available at omaha??? Thanks for your patience
------------------------
So I'm hoping that if I just use some electrical tape to fix the wiring and get a new switch I should be good???
The little yellow bit is just a water seal. Use something small and blunt to push it back in. Get some contact cleaner and spray it in the connector after your remove it from the pressure switch. No need to 'fix' the wiring. It's not broken, just dirty.
New switch AND new crush washer for it. Would suck to replace the swtich and stop that leak, but have it leak around the thread base because you missed a $.10 washer
Ok thanks. Sounds simple enough!
Found the part. Also got the crush washer to replace the old one. I was reading somewhere that I need some sort of thread sealer. It didnt look like the old one had it so I'm going to skip it for now. How much pressure torque should I be using? Is there a way to "eye ball" (ie finger tight + quarter turn...)
No thread sealer. That's what the crush washer is for. 19 Nm.
Thanks. I hope 19nm is 14 ft lbs!

That wasn't a response to my post was it?
