Title: Woodcraft clipons....worth it?
Post by: Fireman1291 on July 10, 2012, 11:21:36 AM
Im seriously considering the Woodcraft clip-on kit

My bike now...before I install the CRG RC2 black/red levers tomorrow.

And a picture I found online and I photoshopped the ugly stock mirrors off.....

I'm trying to get an idea of how they will look. Anyone have them and praise them?

I was also thinking these would go with the clip-ons to tune my geometry

What do you think?

I love Woodcraft stuff...but that "clip-on" kit is fugly.  [puke]

I also don't see the benefit. Actual clip-ons (that clip onto the forks), lower the bars and can give increased adjustability. The up/down adjustability provided by the kit can be achieved with different bars, or riser clip-ons. Clip-ons also clean up the look of the bike...exactly the opposite of what the kit does.

I'd save my money and get actual clip-ons and a new top triple. More money, but a much better solution IMO:

The pegs are cool, whether you change the controls or not.  [thumbsup]

I totally agree! I was waiting for someone like you to come along and show me the other way. Im new to modding street bikes. ;)

So the black triple tree with clip-ons would look very clean........

Now you just have to decide if you want the bars lowered or not. I posted the Speedymoto Tallboy clip-ons because they won't lower the bars too much (if any). Flat clip-ons (like the Woodcraft ones for example...Speedymoto sells them too) will lower them quite a bit...and you may also have issues with them clearing the tank when you turn the handlebars. The key to buying clip-ons is to make sure they are for the correct fork tube diameter.

Yeah, I think ill be going with clip-ons that are close so my stock bar height. Maybe an inch lower max......What one would you recommend?

Pics help me visualize! You guys have been a big help so far. Post away [beer]

Speedymoto makes great stuff, so I'd try the Tallboys if it was my bike. I can't recommend anything though, since I don't have an M1100 so am not aware of any potential issues. They look like they would work though...maybe email them and see if they know for sure. They're good guys.

Yes actually sorry didn't realize that kit wasn't like the speedy moto ones. That's the one I've been doing research on as well. I think it gives the most naked look to the bike. I just can't decide on how much rise I need to get either =/ wuts the best option for adjustable with the speedymoto triple clamp?

Woodcraft with 2.5" rise. Tried to get some different angles for you. I don't have any of just the clipons. I didn't want to bash that woodcraft kit in your PM, but it's hideous. [thumbsdown] Tallboys have some clearance issues with the new bikes. Ung has a really good thread on clipons that I'll try to find.

OMG it's perfect! Yeah the more I looked at the adaptor plate.....the more I couldn't look at it lol!

Did you find a good price for your rizoma resivors? I'm going for the same look. It looks so clean and mean. (yes....that rhymes...lol)

O and are you running the speedymoto top triple(black) with 2.5" Woodcraft clip-ons?

Ya, Speedymoto top triple and woodcraft with the 2.5" rise. I got everything including the resivors from MonsterParts. Jeff will hook you up!  [thumbsup]  [Dolph]

The 3" rise works too.

Zero rise Woodcraft clipons with Style & Performance triples. The triples can also take the stock bushings and use bars which is nice if I ever decide to go back to them

and riding so you can see the reach

The bar ends were difficult to use with the zero rise, too much head movement. so the I use the taller mirrors now.

I put Woodcraft 3" risers (50mm) on my 796 after reading this initial thread and they are awesome.  Height is a personal issue but the 3 inchers just seem to work for me.  Fitting them was a royal pita:  I have read some folks put enough sweep on them that they can clear the headlight assembly.  I had to grind the headlight rim right down both sides to get enough clearance and even then there were problems routing the hydraulics.  No pics yet, got to take off the top triple and paint it black first [roll]    I was expecting it to be a simple job but it was baaaaad.  But I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.

i just finished this install myself. It's definitely a great mod to have....look and feel.

i went with woodcraft 3" risers and a speedymoto top triple (to avoid trimming the headlight brackets) this setup was a direct fit (make sure to get monsterparts clipon adapters if you have square style reservoirs)

After thinking about this mod for about 8 months, I finally just completed it. I used the Woodcraft Clip-ons with the 2.5" rise and the speedymoto top triple. It was a pretty easy fit and the look and feel are amazing. I just wanted to thank you guys for all the useful information that made this swap much easlier for me....

Just my $0.02...

I had some minor issues with the hardware they came with, stripped a hex one one of them, and I dont like how you have to use to coffin spacers, because with the levers adjusted for my hands, the clutch switch doesnt work.

But as for the clipons themselves, no complaints.
