Title: 200,000 miles Post by: PhilB on July 14, 2012, 05:54:26 PM Turned over the odometer this afternoon, for the second time on the old Monster ('93 M900).
Starting the third pass; it's running strong. Next stop -- the Moon! PhilB Title: Re: 200,000 miles Post by: Howie on July 14, 2012, 06:29:45 PM [thumbsup] [beer]

Title: Re: 200,000 miles Post by: PhilB on July 15, 2012, 06:55:58 AM Wow [thumbsup]!! Tlhat's about 10k miles per year? Whereabouts has it brought you to? It's been my daily transportation for almost 19 years, so that's most of it. I'm also up to having gone to 26 states of the lower 48 on it.Highest ever? Some one contact dna.. DNA is aware of the bike; they've seen it several times at various events around the country. I know of several Ducs over 100K. The highest I know of is Gary Eagan's ST4, that he set several endurance riding records on -- it has about 225K, and currently is in the Barber museum. Mine is second, AFAIK, but I'm not nearly done with it yet.Hats off to you. It's just great to hear this achievement. The engine has required very little aside from basic maintenance. I had the weak chrome head studs initially; most of those got replaced at around 25K, but my shop just discovered last month, while handling a base gasket leak, that there were still 3 of the original faulty studs, so they replaced those. We put in piston rings and replaced a failed alternator bearing at 122K, a clutch basket at 140K, new (used) carburetors at 185K, just recently fixed a cylinder base gasket leak and replaced various seals and o-rings in the top end. And that's about it. Bottom end and transmission haven't seen the light of day since the bike was built. What kind of engine maintenance did you go through? What kind of history did U 2 have? Post up pics of then and now :) There are some pics of it at the Indy MotoGP in 2010 in this thread: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10036.msg1048175#msg1048175 (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=10036.msg1048175#msg1048175) It was a "Bike of the Month" on this site back in August 2005, with the story up that point and lots o' pictures. I don't know if those are still archived on this site or not. PhilB Title: Re: 200,000 miles Post by: ducpainter on July 15, 2012, 07:03:53 AM FTR...

Title: Re: 200,000 miles Post by: PhilB on July 16, 2012, 07:54:54 PM Thanks, everyone.
Another interesting thought -- this milestone also puts the bike somewhere in the vicinity of having done 1,000,000,000 engine revolutions. That's kind of neato. PhilB Title: Re: Re: 200,000 miles Post by: duccarlos on July 17, 2012, 04:10:59 AM Great job keeping her running Phil!

Title: Re: 200,000 miles Post by: PhilB on July 19, 2012, 06:39:05 AM Congrats man! Excellent! Too bad you're way down under; it would be really cool once you also pass 200K to get both our bikes over the Barber museum, have them roll out Gary Eagan's ST4, and get a pic with three 200K+ Ducatis. But I'm catching you up, ever so slowly… ;-) big PhilB |
