Title: studder/shaking
Post by: NGN07S4R on July 16, 2012, 09:50:17 AM
When I am riding my 07 S4R and the RPM's drop below about 3500 or 3k I get a harsh shake from the motor like its being bogged down is this normal? It usually happens if I slow down and then the RPM's drop and go to roll on it again. First Ducati so don't know everything about what is and isn't normal yet. It has a DP ECU for the S4RS mapping with 11% increased fuel flow. Any help would be great.

That's pretty normal. Ducs are built to spin up higher and don't care much for the lower half of the 3000 range. Just keep the RMPs up a touch and all will be well

I've never heard of a Ducati that won't try to shake it's owner off the seat if given full throttle under ~3-4,000 revs - it's not a great feature, but it's normal. Careful throttle/cruising should be ok down to at least 2,000 revs though. Just keep it ready at + 4,000 - IME better mileage and easier on you and the bike.

Perfect thanks that's what I was hoping to hear! She is a beast and I love her to death! Seemed a little strange but my custom vtwin does pretty much the same thing. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks guys!

It's most notable from a dead start. As stopintime noted, once you're rolling in a higher gear you can cruise lower in the range than the start off revs. But cruising low down will lead the engine to be a bit hesitant to spin up if you need a quick burst of acceleration.

BTW - do you know how old the cam drive belts on your bike are? They are spec'd to be replaced at 12k miles OR 2 years of age from install.
