Title: S2R 800 - Metal on metal rubbing sound, rear wheel
Post by: glbrto on July 19, 2012, 11:58:52 AM
I've recently noticed this metal on metal sound coming from the rear wheel when I walk the bike in and out of the garage and at low speeds while riding.  I do have to get the brakes checked as the rear brake feels and sounds gritty when I step on the pedal.  Wondering if that has something to do with it... thoughts?

Do you have a rear stand? If so pop it up on there and inspect. Remove the pads from the caliper and rotate the wheel by hand so you can get an ear down there.

Last time I had a grindy type noise I detected while the bike was on a stand for chain lube. It was coming from a bearing in the early stages of crapping out.

By removing the pads - you're just eliminating (or pinpointing) the pads as the source of noise.

Thanks Panda, I'll do that.
