Title: Dual headlight angel eye/turn signal idea Post by: Melfqw on July 19, 2012, 01:12:01 PM So I wanted to switch out my stock headlight on my 2003 Ducati Monster 800s.i.e for a dual headlight setup. I was thinking that I would build my own angel eyes into the headlight(idea from ducduals) and that I would have a second angel eye inside the first. The second angel eye would be amber, and would be my turn signals in the front. I wanted to get an opinion on this, do you think it will work? Would the angel eyes look cool inside a reflector cup(usually angel eyes surround projectors)?
Then I got to thinking why not just do projectors, it would look better after all. With the projectors I could easily install some HIDs. I also love the look when BOTH headlights are on at the same time, so I would have to do a dual bi-xenon setup instead of one high/low. I'll start simple at first, and maybe get into some of this stuff later on. If just for cool - why not just swap to amber on the outside first to see if it'll work at all. Then worry about two rings as a rev 2 Title: Re: Dual headlight angel eye/turn signal idea Post by: Melfqw on July 19, 2012, 01:59:46 PM It would be for street use, but here in colorado we don't have motorcycle emission testing or inspections.
Title: Re: Dual headlight angel eye/turn signal idea Post by: dufukincati on July 19, 2012, 03:15:16 PM It sounds cluttered, dangerous, and hard for other vehicles to understand.
Title: Re: Dual headlight angel eye/turn signal idea Post by: Nottsbiker on July 20, 2012, 04:28:52 AM I'd only do it if I didnt have lights on all the time, but I do so agree with the above post stating it would be confusing or even more likely impossible to see by other road users. The only time I'd actually consider this type of mod would be on R1 style headlights which have extra room in the lense but away from the acual light unit. I've done this on an Aprilia Rs125 to good effect stylistically, but in reality the indicators were crap ;)

People occasionally tell me they cant see my integrated tail light signals, but they pass inspection no problem. My old KZ doesnt have signals at all, I just used hand signals on that.
Either way, im curious to see what you come up with for a replacement. Title: Re: Dual headlight angel eye/turn signal idea Post by: seanster on July 20, 2012, 12:52:10 PM if you are going with projectors (which I always perfer), then which housing do you have in mind? and which projectors are small enought to fit into that housing? ebay has some very small projector but still big enough to not fit into the Dominator Dual Headlight housing. I have given it some thought but not very effective.

Only looks cool until there's a car parked on your head. (http://www.theretrofitsource.com/index.php?cPath=30.) I have yet to look into compatibility because I am still hesitant about the idea at all. I want a cool look for my headlights. I could have the angel eyes be low beams if I got bright enough ones in a reflector housing... then the high beam could just be one(or both) of the lights when I need them.

And the cars that look for them will see them regardless of size. (Not trying to start an arguement, just stating a fact) For the projectors I would probably use one of the mini h1 designs from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/index.php?cPath=30. I looked into something like this for my car a while back. If your running a true Xenon HID, there is some heatup time so I would shy away from using a Xenon as a high beam, BiXenons are designed with this in mind...there is a shade that chops down the light beam for lows, then flips up for highs...no heatup. For this reason a lot of cars will have a Xenon low, and a halogen high...or BiXenons for both. My new car has the BiXenon for headlights, and a row of LEDs for day time running lights that are bright enough to drive with. Maybe go with a Halo/LEDs for DRLs and a BiXenon for your actual headlight? I wanted to do this mod a while back...but it was too much to get into with the new style monster headlight. Some of the LED turn signals that a lot of ppl have are so freaking tiny you can barely see it. They are meant indicate your intention and not merely look cool!! And then, what ever the f*** is up with car manufacturers coming up with red bulbs for turn signals... A bixenon would be ok, but I wouldn't even want my headlight on at all until I flipped my high beams on. The low beam would be a bunch of halos/LEDs, and the high beam would be one, maybe both of the projectors with regular bulbs in them. I would shy away from the idea of an HID because I have nowhere to hide the ballast, the whole point of this mod being to clean up the front of the bike. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UnHWKPXKRls/TY0Scl-1XSI/AAAAAAAAAVg/H6LC8f48tfc/s1600/CircularHallway.jpg&imgrefurl=http://jaymachado.blogspot.com/2011/03/portfolio-class-with-alex-alvarez_421.html&h=720&w=1117&sz=101&tbnid=DRRSOZiv68gtSM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=140&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcircular%2Bhallway%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=circular+hallway&usg=__gdJ5H25lSAFPf_99ro_jY06xIm4=&docid=RaG0cQ1dQ0K-zM&sa=X&ei=6RYPULiZBsis2gXs8oGIDQ&ved=0CFAQ9QEwAQ&dur=243 (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UnHWKPXKRls/TY0Scl-1XSI/AAAAAAAAAVg/H6LC8f48tfc/s1600/CircularHallway.jpg&imgrefurl=http://jaymachado.blogspot.com/2011/03/portfolio-class-with-alex-alvarez_421.html&h=720&w=1117&sz=101&tbnid=DRRSOZiv68gtSM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=140&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcircular%2Bhallway%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=circular+hallway&usg=__gdJ5H25lSAFPf_99ro_jY06xIm4=&docid=RaG0cQ1dQ0K-zM&sa=X&ei=6RYPULiZBsis2gXs8oGIDQ&ved=0CFAQ9QEwAQ&dur=243) Look at that picture and imagine instead of a hallway it was the inside of the headlight. 2 or 3 halos getting smaller and smaller until the back of the headlight where the projector is(door). I would probably put a single LED inside the projector that lit up the projector when it is not on(demon eyes?). One halo on the very front of the light, and one surrounding the projector with another one in between the two. Painted black inside of the headlight with a lit up yellow projector(my duc is yellow). I'm getting excited already! Title: Re: Dual headlight angel eye/turn signal idea Post by: seanster on July 24, 2012, 03:21:18 PM sounds like a LOT of work for some headlight, but i'm excited to see it done! ;D
