Title: oil leak Post by: HaChayalBoded on July 22, 2012, 08:31:30 AM Hey guys, I had this bike (01 monster 620ie) for about 3 months. It was supposed to be for the woman but I ended up selling it to a friend. If it were physically larger I would have kept it for myself.
Anyway, my friend is telling me it has an oil leak. Even though I parked it in the same exact spot and put roughly 1k miles on it myself I never had the issue. The bike has about 12k on the clock. Is there an inherent issue with this model, or is this a common issue and nothing to worry about? Every bike has it's quirks, I'm hoping this is just one of those. Anyway, here are the pics. by the way, I can see your tank prop. [cheeky] Title: Re: oil leak Post by: stopintime on July 22, 2012, 12:15:46 PM I'd like to bet on that oil coming from the case breather valve, more specifically the washer/seal between it and the engine. It's easy enough to replace and cost very little.
It can be other things, but try that first... Title: Re: oil leak Post by: Howie on July 22, 2012, 07:17:01 PM Could be the breather, could be a cylinder base leak. Clean the area thoroughly, go for a ride, inspect. Still not sure? Clean the area thoroughly again, dust with aerosol foot powder, go for a ride, inspect. The stain in the foot powder will lead you to the source of the leak.

[cheeky] Ya know, the first few times I popped the tank on these bikes I thought to myself "man, what brain dead idiot designed this thing and couldn't even have some sort of prop for the tank" I would always use a bungee between the top latch and the rear cowl. Then my friend send me that picture and I smack my head....there IS A PROP!!! |
