Title: Unreal mpg.
Post by: mickyvee on July 22, 2012, 10:29:13 AM
[thumbsup] Just done a 2000 mile Euro trip on my Evo. I was with my wife who rarely takes her bike above 70mph, so it was gentle use only. Even so, I was astonished to be averaging 62 miles per imperial gallon of very expensive petrol! Good eh? I verified this amazing result several times during the trip, and it appears to be accurate. Keeping the revs below 4000, and trying to stay in the top two gears seems to be the formula to follow. I was concerned about the 3 gallon capacity before we set off, as the best I'd got was 45mpg, so I was deliberately trying to be easy on the throttle. It certainly paid off. I got over 150 miles before my low fuel lamp came on! When I nad my 1200 Griso, it always did the same mpg regardless of how I rode it, so this is a very positive thumbs up for the latest Desmodue engine. The bike also proved to be totally dependable, in spite of having to ride in 4" of standing water on the Belgian motorway for several miles! I remain very impressed. In similar conditions last year, my Griso threw up a few electrical gremlins, including total speedo failure which meant my fuel gauge and low fuel lamp didn't work. Not good. Unlike my Ducati, which is good. Very good indeed.

Where did your 2k miles take you?

[Dolph] Through Belgium, to eastern France, then to the south of France, back through Switzerland, central and northern France, and back to Belgium to catch the ferry home, Top trip!

Keeping the revs below 4K will get me run-over either by the hillbillies driving gas guzzling 4x4 trucks or the DC’s snotty spoiled brats. Sorry, I live in Northern Virginia.  ;D

;D The abundance of nearly empty, arrow straight roads, in France, makes it easy to maintain a constant pace. Obviously, twisties, town work, and suicidal cage drivers, necessitates the use of full revs and all six gears!

Can't imagine ever cruising along below 4000rpms.  I always seem to be above that.  Cruising on the freeway I'm usually at 4000-5000rpms.  43mpg seems to be about the best I can manage.
