a bit geeky but i have observed that as 2v Ducatis wether monsters ,Supersports or touring models age they seem to require less valve adjustment and shim replacement, for instance my 750Monster first had its valves checked by me at 8,202 miles and it needed 7 shims in total previously checked by previous owner at 3864 miles just when he sold it to me it needed 3 shims . I next checked it at 13,940 miles and it did not need any shims , today I checked it at 20,345 miles and again NO shims required it was actually almost the same as last measurements !!!!
My 750ss which has done 32033 miles has also not needed any shims at last check a few weeks ago .
Talking to many 2v mechanics this seems a common thing the valves bed in over first 10 -15k and then seems to stay .
Dont be tempted to skimp on servicing my bikes get fresh oil and filter every 3-4000 miles and belts every 2-3 years
and 4 valve older bikes like S4 or 916 still need valve shims at higher mileages seems they are not the same as the 2valvers, my S4 has now done 21,067 miles and every check at around 5-6000 miles has seen at least 5 shims changed including last time at 20982 miles

Good to know. Did my first valve check on my M796 a couple months ago at the first 12,000 km (7500miles) service, and I needed 4 shims.
To what specs are you determining need / don't need? setting to LT Snyders specs mine still needed a tweek but I'm
doing ~10K intervals (last was 13K, bike was at 35K miles) - 05 620.
using factory specs I could go untouched for >20K no doubt.
Once the collets get settled in there isn't much else that wears or changes. If you make sure to replace the collets in the same orientation it's pretty common that you don't need much adjustment
I use LT Snyders specs , on all my Ducatis and those I fix for other people.
to echo what peggy said. I have MBP collets they deform much less than stock collets, only swapped 2 shims from the last adjustment (12,000 mile interval)
