Hi all, new to the forum. Pick up my new monster in 5 days or so after a month wait. Went into my dealer today to check to see if it was in (which it wasn't) and he told me that my Termi's can be fitted straight away. Just wondering if this is BS as last week he was telling me that they were to be put on at 1k service but they only just RECENTLY changed it? Thought I'd ask here where all the monsteristi live  [thumbsup]

My first Monster had zero on the clock when the termi's went on.......... 22,000 later and still not a problem  [thumbsup]
well only problem is its my wifes now and I still get to pay for all the service  [laugh]

I rode my M1100 out of the dealership with Termis fitted from day one.

There is no "them" to just change "it".   Its pretty much up to the dealer.  Some dealers - at least in my part of the world - dont like to sell you a new bike with cans which technically... ahem... may not be completely street legal.... stamped as they are with the damning words "for racing use only".

Whereas when they fit 'em at the 1K first service they can claim they're "aftermarket' so you cant drag them into the "but thats how Ducati delivered the bike to me Officer" argument.

Which new monster you getting?

If I had the stock cans fitted to begin with it would encourage me to ride it more carefully and then when 'run-in' I'd drop them mo-fo's quicker than a whores drawers  [thumbsup]

depending on your state registration process, I would be careful about putting them on before you get your first plate and sticker..

I live in Australia so it all comes registered and insured before I even ride it out of the dealers (legally it has to). I must admit I got a little excited when he told me they could be fitted straight away, saves me having to do 1000km as quick as I can while trying to run it in  [laugh]

if they can, I say let 'em  :D

For the record my S4rs was ridden out of the dealer with termison and loud.

Aftermarket exhaust systems are a huge waste of money.

I dunno... I put the zard full system/dp full system flash on my SF and it dynoed at 150 rwp.  Most magazines test a stock sf at 135... pretty good showing for a aftermarket system.

oh and unless they give you cash for the stock cans, they're yours too.

my dealer tried to keep my stock seat because i bought the comfort seat at the sale.

I agree that's a big gain, but it's not worth the money to me. 

Full Termi kit definitely not a waste of $$. On a RS it's worth almost 15 HP and more over 10 lb.ft. everywhere. I asked the dealer not to start mine without the kit on. Over 40K and never ever missed a beat yet. Definitely worth the $$.

all are negligible differences and we know the two main reasons people get exhaust systems are (1) sound and (2) bling factor.  i prefer a quieter exhaust, so that knocks out one of the two.     [coffee]

My stock setup was 18 lbs and the replacement was 9.  That's not negligible.

Adding the pciii and dyno with an open airbox got another 6 HP.

Higher HP and least weight .... ftw!

most of the time i have on a 30lb backpack when riding because i commute to work and go to the  gym first... despite this my bike still has way more horsepower than i can use. 


other times i have my girlfriend on the back and you know what?  still more hp than i can use.   [Dolph]

It's not the overall hp, it's the hp: weight ratio.  My 600ss is just over 344 lbs with a half tank of gas.  I've managed to coax the engine to put out 60hp.  The difference is stunning.

Also:  all of my bikes are monopost.  :-)

I think the difference here is thus...

You use your bike as a point A to point B mode of transportation. You blend into traffic and are assimilated.

I personally use my bike as an adventure between point A to Point C to point B and want people to notice so I dont get flattened at 85mph

I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer to this question, how many HP does one gain by installing termi slip-ons (and air filter+ecu)? Currently running stock , but plan to buy and install termis slip-ons once the dealership has them in stock.

I have no scientific answer for you.  No official numbers to quote. 

But..... after fitting Termi slip-on, DP ECU/air filter to my M696..... I detected no discernible HP gain whatsoever.   Maybe I'm just not very discerning.

They do weigh less, look better, sound good (too loud with Db killers removed IMO) and - as the sensible accountants amongst us have already pointed out - cost money.

I was under the impression that it's similar to what is referred to as Harley tax, i.e. freer flow air filter, exhaust and rejet the carb.

Mine was after putting it on a dyno.

Dropping any weight from the bike increases the power ratio.

Of course, the best weight to drop is the primate in the seat.

But dropping nearly 10 lbs from the exhaust helps.  Add lighter brakes, wheels, etc and you may not need the extra HP.

Works for me all the time.   [thumbsup]   [evil]

Drop one tooth off the front sprocket. I bet you'll notice the difference.

It's the cheapest performance mod I can think of.

Practically speaking, triple digits on the street are just totally impractical here anywhere in the U.S..., and when I DID that regularly, (Statute of Limitations... 8)) it was on an SBK early on Sunday mornings... [leo]

After my demo ride, would not have left the dealership without my 14T.
