Title: My new ride
Post by: duke8 on July 31, 2012, 01:44:56 AM
Hi all

Just thought I'd share a couple of snap shots of the new ride...coming from a 620, this thing is a whole new beast. It's sort of evil, but in a good way  ;D

And make the beast with two backs me if it ain't loud, I thought the lil 620 was loud, but this thing is ridiculous. My neighbours are gonna hate me....

Some pics before it got a good wash and a few uneccessary bits taken off....

As you can imagine, I'm stoked and can't wait to get out on it....

Thanks Jamie....

A few things were removed yesterday and a few still to happen. Removed the front cowl, stock mirrors and the passenger foot pegs, and replaced the beer tray with a cut down version, but I will chop the tail soon (just not sure if I should wait post blue slip).

Ill also remove the handlebars and top triple, and put some clip ons on it. And those ugly pee cups have gotta go too.... oh and the clutch cover, and....well you get the idea.  ;D

Congrats man!

I know just how excited you are. I have a blast every minute I'm on the bike and can't wait to get back on it when I'm not riding.

You mentioned in my thread about the ecu pn. Is it visible if you lift the tank? I don't want to again on mine right now because the tank is expanded so bad I have to remove the clamp screws to get it hooked back into the air box. My replacement tank should be in within a week or so and I can confirm then.

Oh and what rear turn indicators are you running? They look much better than the bulbous stockers.

Cheers and enjoy!

Thanks roggie... Still got the grin on my face TBH;D

As far as the pn on the ecu, mine was on a white sticker on the outside of the unit. It's clearly visible when u lift the tank, so you shouldn't have a problem finding it once your tank is off.

And Im not sure about the indicators, they were on it when I bought it. Ive since relocated them, and couldn't find any branding on them anywhere. My guess is they're cheapies from eBay or similar... The stockers are shocking, so anything is an upgrade  [thumbsup]

nice bike, congratulations!
looks better with the cowl though.........

Thanks loony

I think ATM I agree with you, the gauges and light just sit too high. When I put the clip ons on, I'll be lowering them both which will give it a more aggressive look...

I much prefer the lowered look to the fairing myself, but each setup has its own appeal..

yep, agree with that, with clip ons the fairing would look silly, which is something i don't get, i LOVE the bars and position on my monster, i have a couple of superbikes as well which rarely get ridden because i prefer the wide bars.
But hey, it's your bike, so as long as you like it that's all that matters, and i really love the termi headers, so envious they won't fit my 996 S4R

Yeah I think I prefer the clip ons simply cause its all I've ever known. I bought my 620 with clip on, and haven't rode a bike without them before, so it's just what I'm comfortable with..

And yes, I love those headers as well, I can understand the envy  ;D

Thanks Kyle, u beat me to it...

Yeah she's in pretty good nick, a few nicks and scratches on the paint, but apart from that, really good condition.

Very relieved as I bought it interstate without seeing it myself....

Still looking for your upgrade or put it on hold?

On hold for the minute. Don't know how I'd have gone through summer not being licenced to ride a big bike legally.. would be too tempting! Haha

Looks better, definitely.

Where are the indicators and levers?

Title: Re: My new ride
Post by: duke8 on September 04, 2012, 04:10:35 PM
Thanks guys...

Dom, I'll be bringing the 620 to the show, the rs isn't allowed out untill early December unfortunately... But I'll def be there

Rowdy, I was wondering if anyone would pick that up... ;D.

Levers are in the mail, and I'm still tossing up which indicators to go with ATM, or wether to switch the rear ones I have to the front and get an integrated tail light.

Ohhh a integrate tail light might get you in trouble with   [leo]   Just thought I will let you know

Thanks jukie, I thought as much, although there's probably a few other mods ive done which [leo] wouldn't be too happy with as well... But I guess anything that attracts less attention is a good thing  [thumbsup]

It has been know that someone has already been caught with this issue by the  [leo] and I didn't want you to have to go through it as well. Just looking out for ya

Julie is correct
Mr plod does not like them , I have one and have got off with a warning as I left the indicators on and spliced them
into the intergrated loom so they blink at the same time.
The warning was get rid of the intergrated............which I promptly forgot  ;D

The mods look great, Duke8. Really classy. I'm particularly keen to know how you did the headlight? - black really toughens-up the front on a black monster - mines the same colour scheme (but an S2r). Also the handlebars - 'clip-ons'? What did you use there? - It's a mod I've always wanted to do but got no idea where to start...where do I find 'em and what am I looking for? - if you don't mind me asking...

Thanks timjim... Headlight was really easy, just removed the ring and bucket, and sent them off to be powdercoated along with a few other parts... I also lowered the headlight and gauges which makes a big difference to the front of the bike. Theres a how to in the tutorials sections if you're keen on that...

As far as clip ons go, there's plenty of options and different brands... You can get riser clip ons which sit higher, or no rise which are alot lower, hence a more aggressive riding posture. Different brands offer different adjustability options etc. mine are apex clip ons with a3inch rise.... Scored those off eBay for about $140. If you check out the sponsor sites like monster parts or motowheels, they have plenty available...

Thanks Duke8! Powdercoating joins the list of to-dos, for sure.

Also, it really helps to know they are Apex clip-ons...at least provides a 'starting point', thanks. Good to see how they look mounted (along with the other mods) - "when you like what you see"  :)...I found them on MonsterParts, and now I'll check out the 'other' options, as you mention. Bit of research, rather than "on the list" as yet. I don't think I want to ditch the front fairing, so lowering the instruments and headlight might not work...?
As I ride daily in a semi-rural area and cop shitloads of bugs and stuff, and reckon cleaning the mess out of the instruments would be a pain!
Looking forward to viewing your further updates!  [thumbsup]
