I want to cover half of my belly pan in vinyl carbon fiber (black half) & paint the front half in Ducati red to match my tank.
My question has anyone had FHE with vinyl CB?

i'm curious about how you feel it looks around the real CF. (i.e. will it look obviously vinyl).
i've been thinking about doing the windscreen of the SS with it.

After I post a pic of current color scheme I think it will
be  easier to visualize my intention.

The CF area of the belly pan is at the bottom and back so it will not be to close to other real carbon area's.....mybe 10" from hugger

Buy a real CF pan and paint it. Vinyl is wrong.

Carbon fiber is supposed to make parts lighter.  Carbon fiber vinyl adds weight.  Other than that if it looks good go for it.

Weight savings....I guess, but I bet most guy's just like the look.
Also, I plan to lose the "Ducati" lettering

I think the weight savings of a single part is insignificant, unless you are talking rotational/unsprung weight.
Collectively, CF parts can give good savings.
So, if it looks good and that's all your are doing, why not, but be prepared to get ribbed for 'faking' it.

but seriously, i'm with Raux too.  How much of a sheet of vinyl will add weight to the bike? My gremlin bell probably weight more.

Painting CF isn't that hard, need good prep (well all paintings do).  I like CF because it holds up better if in case of incidents do happend, but some might not like the look of it.  I painted my fender to match the bike and laid it down and the CF held up great.

Most vinyl carbon fiber dealers will offer a substantial discount if you can show that you are a member of the Hair Club for Men.

Get the stuff from 3M.  I think its called "DI-NOC"  I used this on the back side of my gauge cluster housing.  It works really well, and its very pliable when you use heat (hair dryer) to really wrap around curved areas.  Once it cools down it somewhat hardens and takes shape of the surface you're covering.  The carbon print on it looks pretty good too.

It is not really the weight savings, it is just the principle of the thing bugs me just a little tiny bit lol.  [wine]

Good to know.  After going round and round with ducpainter about rehabbing my crappy looking old CF, someone suggested covering it with vinyl. So I'll have CF vinyl covered CF :D. Still a weight savings over the OEM plastic.

BTW, can I use your HC4M membership info?

I have a Triumph OEM CF front fender on my sprint. One day as I was preparing to R&R my front forks I'd just removed the front wheel when my steering head bearing stand collapsed and the entire weight of the bike came crashing down on the fender.
The only damage was a small crack in the gel coat where the bottom of the stand hit the fender.

OTOH, all CF is not created equal. The old scoops I got off eBay would probably crack if I looked sideways at them.  One of the reasons they are so unsightly is that the gel coat was so thin it's worn off down to the fabric.

Great info. I also need to get some 3M paint protection film for the cutout of my tank and the sides of my cowl where the bags rub on them.
