Would like to confirm without a bunch of trial and error that my '01 M750 Dark (carbs, electronic tach, mechanical speedo) does NOT have any immobilizer.
Can anyone confirm that or explain what to look for to determine for sure?

I will take the hit first to confirm....NO you don't have immobilizer...haha and of course correct me (anyone) if I'm stupid.
Another way to test is disconnect the big lum (pig tail behind your dash) and try to start the bike and see what happen. If you have immobilizer then, they bike won't start and vice versa.

Best way I know to tell on the newer ones with the immobilizer is to take the plastic cover/surround off around the key and turn it over, it will have a wire that runs up and around the hole the key barrel fit through and that is what picks up the key signal to know you are using a chip key. Just the 2 nuts you need to take off on either side of the ignition switch to find out.
No, your bike definitely does not have an immobilizer
Only bikes with and ECU have an immobilizer - with no computer you don't have an immobilizer.
OK, no immobilizer - even though it has electronic modules that include the timing advance map, and commonly referred to as "ECUs".

Ecu = engine control unit. Because it reads multiple different engine sensors and operates all engine functions; ignition and fuel, according to all different sensors. It also usually operates guages and indicator lights, and other things. Its a complete computer brain with tens, or sometimes hundreds, of different functions. tens of thousands of functions when it comes to cars.
Your bike has ignition modules. The only thing they do is control ignition timing, and only according to 1 single variable: rpm, read from only 1 sensor: pickup coil.
Anyone who calls an ignition module an ecu is flat out wrong
(sorry if the above sounds rude, but it's true, and it irks me)

Even some Monsters with an ECU don't have the immobilizer. For instance my 2000 900 is fuel injected and has an ECU, but it does not have the immobilizer. Those appeared in 02 (if I recall correctly)
