Title: Ignition spark issue
Post by: pcv57 on August 03, 2012, 04:50:16 AM
I have an 06 S2R1k and the vertical cylinder isn't producing a steady spark.  It runs rough at lower rpm and doesnt want to stay running when cold. The ignition coils were replaced but it's still not running right. I have a full exhaust and a DP race ecu. I also reinstalled the stock ecu to see if that was the problem but no luck. Any suggestions?

plugs/wires/fuel injector

New plugs, new wires but haven't checked the fuel injector. Could that affect one cylinder and not the other? When I hold my hand behind each exhaust can, the exhaust from one is warm and the other cold.

are you sure it's spark that is intermittent? fuel injector wont affect spark. it will affect fuel though  [thumbsup]

if your exhaust is 2-1-2, then both cyls run out both mufflers, and using the exhaust to determine anything would be pointless.

I guess what I was figuring is he is feeling a misfire/nofire on the vert. so it could be spark or fuel.

and yes, if one injector is bad, it will only affect that single cylinder.

I have a full side by side high mount exhaust so each cylinder is connected directly to its own exhaust can. I will check out the injector tho

Dooes the one that is cold smell like gas

if you have no spark and good fuel it should reek of gas
if u havr spark and no fuel it won't fire just push air

I have noticed a strong fuel smell. I didn't check to see if it came from the cold exhaust can. If its not the injector then I'm stumped. The diagnostic computer gives an error code that says its an ignition coil problem but they've been changed

Was the wiring to the coils checked carefully?

That would cause the same code I believe.

I will go back and check it again. It seems like its the only thing left. Also the ignition relay seemed to get very hot. It was replaced but still seems to get pretty warm. I don't know if this is normal or not
