I got stuck in one of the worst traffic jams I've ever seen here today. It was 92 degrees outside. My oil temp reached a scorching 270 degrees before I was able get off the freeway. I thought I heard a sound like a bad bushing on the right side and, by the time I found some shade, there was so much cyl. expansion that my belts were incredibly tight. After cooling off, everything seems fine and the noise is gone. Belts (new) seem OK, too, and the tension is returning to normal as it cools. In the morning i'll recheck the tension but I expect it will still be correct.
Do these idler pulleys warrant replacement after something like this? After it cools I'll take the tension off them and see what they feel & look like. What's inside them? Roller bearings?
And what's the highest oil temp anyone's seen?
I think when you hit 338F is when your display will show hi.
The hotter it get, the more noises becoems apparent, but 2vs can handle 270 without any real issue, it just runs like crap.
Ive gotten mine into the 310s before. i heard it reads hi somewhere above that. 338 sounds right

Mine hit 305 today on the highway. It's 105 degrees out here in Texas now. I have a 2007 Monster 695. The only thing I noticed was that the friction zone on the clutch became soooooooo TINY.

I lived in Vegas for 25 years and was always in awe of the motocops I'd see at 3pm in August wearing bulletproof vests under their shirts. Holy shit they must get hot!
