Title: Monster 620 Dark - Before and AFter Post by: The ModFather on August 05, 2012, 01:47:32 PM After many mods here is a before and after of my 2005 Monster 620 Dark which I picked up last summer with 5K miles on it. Made a lot of changes in one year but Damn!! its been fun. All thats left for me really is PowerCommander and I'd like to lower the gauges as well as swap them for gauges with a white background like on the S2R and Paul Smart. If I can find a good price on a 696 Front Fender I will also be replacing my chopped front fender.... and maybe just maybe swap out the gold gas cap for either black or silver although I do like the shade of gold used on the OEM gas cap.
Big up's to Motowheels, Bellisimoto, PJ's Parts and especially Jeff & Monsterparts [thumbsup] List of Mods below the pics in no particular order. before: (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8294/7719992508_b14e230ea7.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65036619@N04/7719992508/) IMG_2115 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65036619@N04/7719992508/#) by ricknieto (http://www.flickr.com/people/65036619@N04/), on Flickr after: (http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8288/7719957604_82caea92e5.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65036619@N04/7719957604/) photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/65036619@N04/7719957604/#) by ricknieto (http://www.flickr.com/people/65036619@N04/), on Flickr Tail Chop SpeedyMoto Top Triple [thumbsup] Woodcraft Clip-ons with 3" rise Motocreations BOOM TUBES [bow_down] EK-MVXZ Series Gold Chain Motodynamic integrated LED smoke tail light Rizoma - Black Sportline Handgrips Rizoma - Black Spy-R Bar-end mirrors [thumbsup] Rizoma - Track 77 LED Turn Indicators [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Black Billet Front Sprocket Cover Corse Dynamics Black Billet Frame Plugs Motowheels Black Billet Oil Plug Motowheels CNC Black Anodized Crankcase Inspection Cover - Contrast Cut Slingshot Racing Black Billet Brake and Clutch Master Cylinder Reservoir Caps Ducati Peformance Comfort Seat Ducati Seat Cowl T-Rex Frame Sliders Changed Tank Decal to 80's Decal Removed Fork Reflectors and relocated all frame stickers (VIN etc.) to under the seat, removed side fairing decals JT 14T Front Sprocket, Drive Systems SuperLite Rear Sprocket Shortened the front and rear fenders using a Dremel ASV Adjustable Levers Powdercoated the rearsets, shifter, brake pedals and headlight bezel black Oberon Black Billet FootPegs Rider and Passenger Spraypainted Cam covers, front fender mounts and headlight bracket black New Michelin Power Pilots (not really a mod I guess but they are great) Title: Re: Monster 620 Dark - Before and AFter Post by: duke8 on August 05, 2012, 02:43:50 PM Nice work dude! [thumbsup] Looks great, just need to lower those gauges and headlight, I'm in the middle of doing it to my new bike, and have done it to my 620 as well, makes a big difference to the look of the bike.
Would you be able to post a pic of your controls? I am going to do a similar setup on my bike and would like to see how itll look. Also, in regards to changing your top triple, do you need the special tool for the steering nut? And did you need stands or can you do it on the side stand? I'm going to change mine soon and it's good to know what you'll need before starting. Thanks mate Title: Re: Monster 620 Dark - Before and AFter Post by: The ModFather on August 05, 2012, 02:55:07 PM No special tool needed just a two different size hex keys. One for the left and right side bolts and one for the middle bolt. The middle bolt is a pain to get to you need to turn the forks all the way to the right to get to it and for the Speedymoto top triple you need to turn it all the way to the left to get to it when installing. Even turned all the way for the Speedymoto new top triple I needed to make a custom allen wrench hex key by taking dremel and shortening the "L" on the key so I could get it in that tight space. You dont need to remove that center cap at all. Once you remove all the bolts from your top triple use a piece of wood (I used a 2x4 about 8 inches long) place it under the top triple and hit it with a rubber mallet equally on all sides to get the top triple up. I tried with just the mallet first and it didnt budge.

Maybe someone else can chime in on this or I can confirm tonight when I put mine back on ha (mine is stock so idk what any aftermarket ones are like)Bike looks great btw! I had one like this with the dual arrow exhaust and ducCity tune, 42t super sprocket and 14t sprocket with a fancy gold chain.
I loved it and put 24K miles on it before my friend, medicated from the VA for PTSD night terrors wrecked it sleep walking on ambien. I would love to someday replace it! LMK if you ever decide to sell. I rode M750-900 and S2R800 dark but nothing came close to this for my riding style in my hilly west coast USA urban mountain town! |
