Title: Miss issue
Post by: dolphaxel on August 16, 2012, 09:54:56 PM
So I have a '03 m800sie. It has a missfire issue. usually it happens right around 3800rpm when it is warm. It will not do this when your on the gas and also usually at speeds under 50mph.

Here are some other facts.
-bike was just totally rebuilt minus the motor and the problem was there before and after
-brand new NGK plugs properly gapped just for good measure
-bike was just serviced by motocorsa (new belts, valve clearance, new filter) and they could not find the miss despite it being seemingly easy for me to find
-I drove home after the service 200 miles and it still has the miss periodically
-It sounds like a click and I can feel it in the throttle.
-no stalls or stops JUST ANNOYING AS F&*K

Currently I suspect the coils and wires as the connections seem flimsy and I can think of no other weak points. I should also mention that this thing runs like a top other than this issue.

So please help me out here. Im not sure what is worse the miss or the string of profanity that comes out as i weave around in traffic.

I also have an '03 M800Sie and it also had the click I could feel on the throttle.  You can search the forums and find references to other bikes having it.  I do not have it anymore, and you can probably get rid of it on your bike, but I do not think is is an easy thing to do.  You can probably kill it with a combination of:

Valve clearances to old spec.
Slight advance of the cams to 108.
Throttle sync with bleed screws adjusted to match at 3K rpms.
Reset TPM.
Reduced slack on the throttle cable.
PCIII with enriched mixture around the 3-4KRPM range.
New plugs and spark plug wires.

Something in there, or a combination of somethings, worked for me.  Good luck.
