Title: Random numbers on the speedometer
Post by: xteraco on August 18, 2012, 03:03:57 PM
My speedometer started displaying random numbers while driving today. It will not display the correct speed anymore. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

It is a 2009 Ducati Monster 696 with 110 miles on the clock.

I had a similar issue. It was a poor connection from main cable to gauge pod. I disconnected it and applied dielectric grease and re-connected it. No problems since (18K miles on my 09 M1100S)

My 2010 696 had a repair for unreliable speedo readings just before I bought it.
I was told the repair was to replace the speedo sensor, though I can't be certain because I never saw the repair card.

There is probably moisture in the cluster.  Mine did this for months until I finally took it apart and dried it out.  Ducati clusters are pretty crappy and don't keep water out.

Here's my thread:

This would be the first thing to try IMO.

Does the odometer total still read correct?  Or is it mysteriously reading about 1.6x more than expected?
