Title: Leather glue?
Post by: Slide Panda on August 20, 2012, 09:08:03 AM
So I've got some of the slightly older A* GP plus gloves. I noticed this weekend that some of the rubbery bits in the outer heel of the hand area are pulling up at the edges and I'd like to fix.

Any notion on the best stuff to secure this sort of thing? As you might expect, it needs to be flexible.

I usually use contact cements to stick leather together (I've had good luck with this one from Weldwood http://www.lowes.com/pd_105458-68-00105_?PL=1&productId=3006177 (http://www.lowes.com/pd_105458-68-00105_?PL=1&productId=3006177) on a wide variety of moto & kayaking gear). Another good option might be Shoe Goo.

Barge cement is great.   A shoe/leather repair shop turned me on to it years ago.

As a leather worker (hobby) I second Barge cement or go to tandy leather supply online. They have leather specific adhesive as well as the best in dyes and aftercare. I'm currently changing the color scheme on my A* race jacket with their products.

Superglue has no flex and will crack. Not to mention it is water soluble.

Ya just from past xp for me. Anything to do with leather goods I've always taken to a shoe cobbler type shop and they've done the proper work.

Yeah I know the cyanoacrylates would be no good - no flex.

So looks like Barge is the way to go.

Taking it to a shop is over kill - it's just a small area of a small bit on each glove that needs some love.
