Title: woops I feel like a idiot
Post by: captinRob on August 20, 2012, 12:40:23 PM
well after working on bikes of all kinds on a fairly regular basis now for the last few years, I finally went and did it. while getting my m750 off a paddock stand today, after changing the forks out, well, I'm not really sure what happened, but the kickstand was down, and then it was up and then the bike fell over, and now my custom painted tank has a dent in it.   :(

I'm not looking for sympathy, just wanted to bang out a few words on my keyboard because banging another dent in my tank would be a poor choice

on a good note after, not riding my monster for a few weeks because of a very leaky fork seal and not having time to fix it, I took it out for a thrashing after I dented the tank and I am happy to report that the dent in the tank in no way effects the ride at all (not that you would expect it to)

Been there done that. I took off my footpegs to get at the engine panels on my vintage Honda last week. I lost my balance and the bike went over putting it on the stand... bent the brake pedal and dented the panel.

I too in the past have been a victim of the stand being down and folding right up moving the bike slightly forward and dropping it on another bikes engine I had sitting on the floor....the only part to touch was the tank and it put a dent in the dent free tank.  Oh well, painful but you get past it.  Sad thing was I was moving it into the house to remove that same tank to sell off and pay for the one that I was replacing it with....I still came out ok in the end though.  It made me so mad at myself. How about dropping your first motorcycle while riding it in the dealer's lot 10 minutes after you bought it?  The brake pedal is still bent, the heat shields on the right side header and muffler are both scratched, the clutch cover is scraped, so is the brake reservoir, the brake lever is bent (but still works), and there's some paint missing from the front rim.  There's a dent in the tank cover along with the rash on the side.

What the make the beast with two backs did he do to cause that? Looks like something my brother in law would do... that is he even knew how to push the start button. [bang]

I am restoring a 1972 Honda CL350.

When I have finished it, I will be picking up a 696

Thinking they forgot to warn him about how slick new tires are. What a nerd.

Cap,

Drop it on the other side to get a matching dent over there... then try to convince people that it's all part of your plan.

One of my fellow DOC guys just put a VR 46 sticker right on the dent   ;D

stickers do work well for covering up dents and holes I have a friend who took off the passenger grab bars on a zx6r and covered the holes that were left with sickers, looked better then the grab bars.

as for my dent I according to one of the underlings at work who knows a little about body work. he says it looks like it can be pulled out by a body shop. but I'll let you guys know if I do that I'm not sure I want to part with the cash. I would rather have new louder pipes then the dent out  ;D

edit: knowing my luck to, if I tried to match the dent I would either A: make the dent to big. B: break and or bend the handle bars or foot peg. or (insert part here).   [laugh]
