Title: Low Fuel indicator not working?
Post by: Azurus on August 22, 2012, 10:54:32 AM
My Ducati was shipped to me therefore the dealer had to drain the fuel. I started it up without filling it at all and after a minute or so the bike puttered out as expected. During this time though, I never saw the low fuel indicator.

Does it take a while for this indicator to come on or something? I have no idea if it's working or not and don't want to get stranded. I'd like to be able to test it somehow without just making myself run out of fuel.

Well you know the tank volume spec - it's in the manual. So fill up, reset the trip meter and ride for ~100 miles. Fill up, note how much gas was put in to bring it back to prev level, reset trip meter and ride. Lather, rinse repeat. Just a bit of this should give you a solid sense of your fuel range.

Bikes didn't always have fuel lights - those guys got by. My 900 does have one.. that comes on when it feels like it. Full tank or empty... when it feels like it so I just ignore the dumb thing.

if i park mine with the light on, when i restart it takes some time for the light to come back on.  usually a mile or two.

Good to know, thanks. This could be why I didn't see it.

The older carbie level sensors did have a delay 'built in'.

That way they wouldn't blink on and off like crazy as the fuel sloshes back and forth.
Apparently the Paso didn't have that feature, one I just had in my shop did that, really distracting.
