Title: Run out of fuel and runs rough!
Post by: richard_22 on August 29, 2012, 09:34:52 AM
So me and my bike aren't the best of friends and the moment, as you have seen by the threads,

going along the road this morning, fuel light goes on no problems .... then bam two miles down the road, i run out of fuel so pissed off about that i push it two miles upto a petrol station and then fill it up, i thought i'll put shell vpower in it,

now it runs as rough as a badgers arse.

i'll explain, as i'm going along it'll be fine and then all of a sudden it will just lose power and i've got to pull over sharpish, and to start it again i need to put on the choke full whack.

..... also it backfires like a bastard!!

You should start with a fresh fuel filter.

When you ran it out you probably picked up all the nasty stuff off the bottom of the tank.

If a fresh filter doesn't do the trick you might need to drain the float bowls. There might have been some water in the tank.

Do you think that the jets might be blocked??

I don't think so.

It wouldn't run.

I think you have reduced flow because of a dirty filter and some water in the carbs.

ok brilliant!! also it runs better at low speed (0-50ish), and there is a delay on the throttle which gets progressively worse

hopes this helps

That would be consistent with a clogged filter/reduced flow.

How about if it doesn't fix it?  :P

Seriously, your troubles are not unusual for a bike that's run out of fuel.

A fresh filter, and perhaps a bit of dry gas to get the bits of water hiding in the system should put things right.

There is a very small screen in the system where the fuel line enters the carbs. Sometimes, but not usually, that may be part of the issue.

Let us know.

Hey!!

Good news....

It worked no more lag took her for a good 100 mile run out today,
Only issue is that she's backfiring a little still

Check your exhaust connections.

If no leaks try some fuel system cleaner.
