Title: New (used) Street bike suggestions for Frank
Post by: Slide Panda on August 30, 2012, 05:03:57 AM
So, for those of you not following the track day related chatter, Franks 1100S went on it's last ride at Summit and will take it's last voyage on a wrecker to the salvage men. In good addict style he's looking to buy two bikes - one street/commuter mule and one for the track. He's got a few track candidates, so let's focus on the daily driver.

My Suggestions:
2V Duc with a 900 or 1000. Ie Monster or Supersport
  - Why: reliable, sporty but still functional. I can help him with all but the most invasive services.

SV650 or 1000
-  Why: reliable, sporty but still functional, tough as nails, cheap to fix. Very reasonable cost to fit GSXR forks and brakes to.

I'd offer him the Dorsoduro at a good price, but the seat height is high for me....it'd be downright funny to watch him DD the Dorso.

The S4R could be for sale for the right price...title in hand , impeccably maintained and sexy as hell. Got my eyes on a MV F4 RR Corsacorta

[...]sexy as hell
That pretty much says it all! [evil]

@frank:
All things equal, you can't beat the output of a 4V vs a 2V. I had a 748 and it was awesome in every way... except as a daily driver! [thumbsdown] A 4V Monster or the StreetFighter would easily best it.

But I'm still a sucker for an air/oil cooled 2V with FCRs! For me my Bianca (http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=46971.0) is the ideal (and nearly perfect) Ducati. ;D Since ECUs can now be reflashed I would consider a bike with FI. Especially something like the Hypermotard or the (old 2V) Multistrada; depending if you want something more sporty or comfortable.

Do you have a range for how much you'd like to spend on the bike?

I posted this on the other thread.

Not me, just another guy on the local forum.

That's just mean. You know how much trouble you have getting on your GS650? He'd have even more on the Hyper or Multi...  ;D

What about an ST3? Only ever got a demo on one... but it was nice. Anyone have more experience with a 3v Duc?

800 SuperSport

- Though the one photo with the different exhaust makes me wonder a bit. And I'd wager it needs new belts and some other minor items as well... And it's on the mark for a valve check as well. All stuff I could (help) do though

Yeah.. there's that too - which I don't know how they managed. If this biek was a candidate I'd come with, with some tools and a flashlight to see what's what.

I'm willing to spend on the street bike if the financing will work for me. Less than $15k new or less than $8k used. Should be lots of options.

Yes, i am vertically challenged... some of you may have seen me try to mount the multistrada on ducati day... um... funny is an understatement! One of the reasons I had a monster to begin with.

Had him climb on the KTM with it's 17" wheels while in a paddock stand at Summit... flat in the saddle not even tippy-toes make contact.  ;D

So I think the asking price is high, and it's been on consignment forever so that might make for negotiation room - but there's a Senna S4 at Ducpond

That would be a decent daily if you could snag for a few hundred less than his asking.
Looks like it belongs on the streets of DC

have you looked for used base model Diavels?

the seat height is pretty low.

Whereas I am Andre` The Giant's bigger brother!  [laugh]

Most Ducati bikes can be easily lowered: slide the forks through the triples a little and get an adjustable link for the rear.

That thing is pretty, I like how clean it looks! The Arrow cans remind me of the ones I had on my 750: much lighter but not too loud. [thumbsup]

Sometimes I look at the photos and I really miss that bike.... however the GS handles the dirt much better!  ;D

Plus you can always put handle bars back on.
