Title: Possible TC Problem with 1100 EVO
Post by: SDRider on August 30, 2012, 08:48:01 AM
So, last night I leave work to ride home.  I get about 2 miles from work and make a right turn, start to give it power and bam, the bike just stutters, the traction control lights are flashing, and the engine is cutting out.  It does this repeatedly as I'm pulling in the clutch and giving it throttle and trying to get some forward momentum.  I'm coasting along at maybe 10-15mph in the bike lane now and the bike stalls.  I hit the start button and it fires back to life but the same thing when I try to get it moving.  I'm still coasting along because the road is slightly downhill and there is a side street about 100 yards up I figure I can coast to if I need to call a tow truck.  I decide to try turning the ignition off and back on to see if that resets things and it does.

Problem solved.  However, I'm now concerned that this might happen again so I decide to swing by the dealer and have them take a look at it.

The dealer is on my way home and I get there right before they close.  They wheel it in, plug it in to the diagnostic computer and they find no faults.  The bike rode fine all the way to the dealership too which is about 10 miles from where I work.  The head mechanic there is scrolling through the diagnostics and finds that the battery is not charging while the bike is running, it is reading 11.6V so they ask if I can leave it overnight and they offer me a 796 demo to ride home.

So, my bike is at the dealer (it is still under warranty thankfully-one of the benefits of buying a new bike I guess).

I'll keep you posted on what they find.  My bike is a 2012 Monster 1100 EVO with just over 8,600 miles on it.  Only mods are 14T front sprocket which I installed last summer right after I bought the bike.  I always run premium fuel in it and I generally only fill up with Shell, Chevron, or Mobil gas.

Anyone have any ideas or had this problem?

Hallo.
You are not the first one to have that kind of problem and there is as a thread about it somewhere around here.
However no solution so far, ducati doesn't know anything about it, that is atleast what my dealer told me (last year).
I turned off the tc and everything was fine. Later I turned it back on and didn't have any problems since then. In my case it was also raining and maybe something got wet.
Good luck and if have you any news on that problem let us know.
Klaus

Nothing on the TC lights yet but they are ordering a new stator because of the battery problem.  Anyway, I won't have my bike back today unfortunately.   [bang]

Damn, I hope it's a simple thing.  How's it been otherwise SD?  I literally JUST got off of a test ride from a used 1100EVO at my local dealer, wow what an easy bike to ride!  Really like the power, it's got the goods but is very manageable.  It is so clearly overgeared stock! I bet the 14t is a good mod.  I'd like to try it with a the Termis on it to.  I almost signed the papers on it today... lol.  Even used low miles it's still a big nut to spend on a bike for me.

Anyway, I hope they sort out your problem fast!

It has been fine otherwise.  I love the bike.

Well, they are ordering the part for the charging system.  He thinks that the DTC issue was caused by the charging system problem.  I guess we'll see when I get it back.

Same thing happened to my 2012 M1100EVO, turned the key off for a couple seconds and fired it back up - no problems since. Just seems to be a glitch that appears once in a while.

Well, the charging problem definitely isn't a glitch.  It was reading 11.6V at idle so I'm kind of glad I took it in because I would have wound up stranded with a dead battery at some point if I didn't.

I know this is an older thread but did anyone figure out this issue?
