Title: Rear hugger bolts M695
Post by: OrangeDragon on September 02, 2012, 12:33:13 PM
Thanks in advance for any help.

I am experiencing something very weird. I can't remove my rear hugger bolts. I keep lossening but they won't rise out of position.   It is happening on the two at the rear of the swing arm and the front right one.

I have removed the hugger before with no problem but today I am completely dumbfounded on what is going on?  Is there a threaded sleeve in the swing arm that is now just spinning?

Has any one experienced this before?  Any advice, help, solution?

The small bolts that go into the swingarm use what are called rivnuts.  If the bolt gets overtightened or seizes up a bit due to corrosion/time/etc. the rivnut can spin and then you're kinda hosed.  Not sure there is a simple solution.  You may need to grind off the bolt head to get your hugger off.  Then you need to somehow contend with the spinning rivnuts.  I had this problem with one of the bolts to the upper chain rubbing block.

Thanks for the explanation.  Hopefully I can figure something out.  Taking off the hugger makes for easy access for maintenance and cleaning.
